Eidos Architects Opens Greenwood Village Office/Knudson Gloss Wins National and State Awards/Wenk Associates Designs Aurora Park

This summer Eidos Architects celebrated the purchase and completion of its new office in Greenwood Village. Eidos staff designed the facility, built by Aberdeen Construction.

Eidos Architects completed work this summer on the firm's new office at 5400 S. Syracuse St. in Greenwood Village, which offers easy access and close proximity to light rail and Interstate 25.

Denver Architects Open New Office

Eidos Architects celebrated in July the purchase and completion of its new office at 5400 S. Syracuse St. in Greenwood Village.

As one of the first companies to move back into the Interstate 25 corridor after the completion of the majority of the T-REX improvements, company officials said they are excited about the new access and proximity that their building gives them to light rail and I-25.

The facility, designed by the firm and constructed by Aberdeen Construction, provides the firm with larger offices and the ability to increase the size of the staff.


SBEC Teams with BW&G on Prototype School

Shaffer-Baucom Engineering & Consulting was selected by the Adams 12 Five Star School District and Bennett Wagner & Grody Architects to design a new prototype elementary school.

Elementary School 32 will be a $7.2 million, 60,000-sq-ft facility that will incorporate a variety of sustainable design practices. One focus of the Adams 12 School District is daylighting, since studies have found that student performance is directly affected by appropriate lighting situations.


Drexel, Barrell & Co. Opens Office in Steamboat Springs

Boulder-based Drexel, Barrell & Co. has opened an office in Steamboat Springs to better serve the firm's clients in the growing resort and destination community.

Knudson Gloss Wins Chrysalis, CARE Awards

Knudson Gloss Architects recently earned two awards honoring its achievements in the state and national remodeling industry.

KGA was the first-place recipient of the national Chrysalis Award for 2005 Best Design-Build Whole House Remodel over $500,000 and the Colorado Award for Remodeling Excellence second-place Whole House Luxury award.

KGA received both awards for remodeling and additions with Keene Smith for his project, a 3,986 sq-ft, single-story structure in Observatory Park. As part of the remodel, KGA added a second story, an outdoor terrace, a three-car garage and redesigned the front living areas.

The CARE Awards are presented by the Remodelers' Council of the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Denver.


Lantz-Boggio to Design Goshen Middle School

Goshen County School District No. 1 has selected Englewood-based Lantz-Boggio Architects, in association with Pappas and Pappas Architects and Perkins+Will, to design the new Goshen Middle School in Torrington, Wyo.

The design team will develop education specifications and space programming and complete conceptual design, schematic design and construction documents for the project. Construction administration is also included in the project scope.

The project entails the relocation of the high school football stadium, construction of a new 68,000-sq-ft middle school and demolition of the existing facility.


Wenk Associates Designing Aurora's First Large Urban Park

Wenk Associates Inc. is master planning Aurora's first large urban park - "A Signature Park for Aurora."

The 147-acre site is one of the few remaining natural landscapes in the city, a shortgrass prairie organized around Tollgate Creek. The master plan is sensitive to these features while incorporating the Colorado Freedom Memorial, large group pavilions, a unique large playground, gathering spaces for large-scale events and seasonal performances and a sprayground.


Firm Celebrates Anniversary by Helping Habitat for Humanity

MB Consulting Inc. took a day this summer to help build a Habitat for Humanity home in Wheat Ridge.

The event coincided with the company's seventh anniversary as a consulting firm specializing in the provision of engineering assistance to public and private sector clients.

Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver will build about 31 homes in 2005 and has built 246 since its inception. Volunteers, both skilled and unskilled, are needed, especially on weekdays. For more information, visit the Web site at www.habitatmetrodenver.org


NPCA Certifies Vaughn for 16th Consecutive Year

Vaughn Concrete Products Inc. in Henderson was recertified for the 16th year by the National Precast Concrete Association.

Vaughn, a 43-year-old company, manufactures a complete line of utility products, specializing in precast vault structures ranging from 2 ft by 2 ft to 14 ft by 30 ft. Its service area includes Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and New Mexico.

MW Golden Selected for Arapahoe County

MW Golden Constructors has been selected by Arapahoe County to provide term construction services over the next two years - one of three new projects the company has recently undertaken.

The company's first project under the arrangement is a mechanical retrofit on the second floor of the Arapahoe County administration building in Centennial.

Its second project is an entry renovation at Overland High School for Cherry Creek Schools. The third project is a new entry road for Northeast Elementary School in the Pinery for the Douglas County School District.


GSA Extends Terracon's Contract for Five Years

The General Services Administration has extended Terracon Consultants Inc.'s Environmental Advisory Services contract through May 18, 2010.

The contract allows Terracon to provide services - including environmental planning and documentation, environmental compliance, waste management, hazardous materials management advisory and remediation services - to any federal agency or authorized government contractors using the Federal Supply Service schedules and system.

Because the GSA has negotiated the contract on behalf of all federal agencies, purchasing agents or contracting officers can order services by referencing Terracon's GSA Contract Number. The contracting officer can also "sole-source" projects with an estimated fee of less than $2,500. The current maximum single-order limit is $1 million.


MW Golden Lands EOC Contract

MW GOLDEN CONSTRUCTORS was awarded the design and construction of the Elbert County Emergency Operations Center.

The 2,800-sq-ft facility will include a dispatch center, emergency operations center, information technology office and an emergency operations manager's office. It is being built at the Elbert County complex in Kiowa.

The architectural consultant is Architectural Workshop LLC.


FCI Constructors Wins LCCC Residence Hall

FCI Constructors' Longmont office has been awarded the new $9.2 million residence hall project at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne.

As the construction manager/general contractor, FCI teamed up with Denver's Christopher Carvell Architects and LCCC for preconstruction services. Construction started in August on the 67,000-sq-ft, four-story, wood-framed building, which will be completed in time for the 2006 fall semester.


Nuszer Kopatz Tapped for Community Development

Denver-based Nuszer Kopatz has been selected by Village Homes to design a 635-acre master-planned community in the Redlands area of Grand Junction.

The company has also been chosen by the consortium of Laguna Inc., Simeon Communities and Signature Properties to provide planning, entitling, visioning and landscape architecture services for a new master-planned community of up to 1,200 acres located in southeast Denver.


Hayman Co. Plans $2M Renovation

The Hayman Co. has acquired the 411,000-sq-ft Triad office property in Greenwood Village.

The company plans to renovate the 30-year-old facility, located directly across Interstate 25 from the Denver Tech Center.

Plans call for an approximately $2 million renovation to the property, including exterior and interior common area improvements. Some of them include lobby and hallway upgrades, elevator lobbies, entryway upgrades and a new signage package. New tenant finish standards are also being developed to compete with those of new Class A buildings, without raising rents to Class A levels.

Denver-based McDermott Co. will create the renovation program.


CTL/Thompson Chosen for Cañon City Schools

CTL/Thompson has been selected to provide geotechnical engineering and materials testing services for the Cañon City high school addition and the new kindergarten through eighth grade school for Fremont County School District RE 1.

The new 125,000-sq-ft K-8 school, which started construction last spring, has a construction value of $16 million. The design team includes architect Christiansen Reese and Partners and general contractor Nunn Construction Co.

The $8.7 million Cañon City high school project, which broke ground in June, will add 46,000 sq ft of classroom space. The design team includes architect Christiansen Reese and Partners and general contractor HE Whitlock.

CTL/T performed soils and foundation investigations for both sites, along with compaction testing, concrete testing, observation of drilled pier and auger-cast pile foundations, masonry testing and other services.


Environmental Demolition Named to 'Inner City 100'

Denver's Environmental Demolition Inc. was recently ranked No. 38 on the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City Inc.'s "Inner City 100" list.

The list, a ranking of 100 of the fastest-growing businesses in inner city areas around the country, includes companies that are profitable and planning to expand their workforces.

This year's list was culled from more than 4,500 nominations - a record number - in 150 cities, including 500 from Merrill Lynch and 600 from mayors' offices. The ranked companies have created almost 9,600 new jobs in the past five years.


CFC Awarded Sunray Meadows Condos

CFC Construction was awarded Wintergreen Homes' $17 million Sunray Meadows project in Steamboat Springs.

Designed by Eric Smith & Associates, the three-story project consists of 120 units in 14 buildings. It will include a common area with a swimming pool and a playground.

The project is scheduled to be complete in December 2006.


Coover-Clark Wins Work with Wyoming Military

he Wyoming Military Department has contracted with Denver-based Coover-Clark & Associates to conduct Level I Reconnaissance Studies and Level II Feasibility Studies for the design of the department's new headquarters complex in Cheyenne.
