AIA Gala Will Launch Architecture Week
2006
AIA Colorado will kick off Architecture
Week 2006 on Friday with the seventh annual Young Architects
Awards Gala and Beaux Arts Ball.
The annual celebration, designed to promote public awareness
and appreciation of AIA architects and the contributions they
make to the built environment, will run through April 28 and
feature a variety of activities and events.
Highlights include community-based projects, student design
competitions, exhibits, forums, receptions, lectures and tours
of local sites.
Friday's ball - "Imagine
[re: vitalize]: - is
set for 5:30 p.m. at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House at the
Denver Center for Performing Arts. The event is designed to
spotlight young people in the architecture community.
The schedule of events for Architecture
Week 2006 is:
April 21-May 4
AIA Denver will present "Outside the Box" at The
Atrium at 1700 Broadway, with the exhibition space donated
by Wells Fargo Bank and Broe Companies. The exhibit will showcase
the work of the AIA's 2005 design-award-winning firms.
A reception is will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on April
27.
April 22
AIA Denver's Urban Design Committee will hold its 16th annual
Box City from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wellington Webb Municipal
Office Building Atrium. More than 100 children and their families
will participate in this event by constructing a miniature
cardboard city.
April 22-23
AIA Denver will sponsor the second annual Doors Open Denver,
produced by the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs. The free
event offers participants the chance to experience Denver's
architectural gems and lesser-known treasures through self-guided
and expert-led architecture tours.
More than 70 sites, ranging from contemporary office buildings
and architecture studios to historic mansions, museums and
hotels, will be featured, including the AIA Colorado office
in the Park Central Tower at Arapahoe and 15th streets. It
will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 22, showcasing
work submitted for the Young Architects' Awards Gala.
April 25
AIA Colorado's "Emerging Professionals Forum: For Interns,
Associates and Students," will take place from 6 to 8
p.m. Hosted by the intern advocate committee, the gathering
will give attendees the opportunity to visit education stations
featuring information on IDP/NCARB, Colorado state requirements
for licensure, the Colorado Mentoring Program, ARE study materials,
ARE study courses, community involvement opportunities and
the benefits of AIA associate membership.
The event will also feature a panel of recently licensed
architects who will answer questions about their experiences
becoming licensed architects.
April 26
AIA Colorado North's "10x10" presentation from
5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Co-sponsored by the University of Colorado
at Boulder's College of Architecture and Planning, the program
will feature 10 speakers who will each present 10 slides in
10 minutes that cover topics such as projects, inspirations,
experiences and philosophies.
April 27
AIA Colorado/AGC/ACEC will present "Roles and Relationships
in Construction," a Curt Dale workshop for architects,
engineers and contractors - specifically, project managers
with two to five years of experience.
April 28
AIA Denver's Women in Design committee will celebrate Architecture
Week with a happy hour mixer. The group supports contributions
and improves opportunities for women in professions that serve
the built environment through networking, outreach and professional
development.
