Denver’s JE Dunn Construction recently celebrated the completion of the 4,300-sq-ft UMB Bank at Stapleton, located at the corner of Quebec Street and 36th Avenue.
Utilizing green-building practices, the new bank features locally manufactured materials; low-emitting, environmentally friendly paints, ceiling treatments and wall coverings; and carpet that is 100% recyclable. The bank also incorporates energy-saving features throughout and includes a green roof, covered with low-growing grass complete with an irrigation system. The eco-friendly roof does not retain heat like other roofing materials and offers the natural environmental benefits of plant life, transforming carbon dioxide into oxygen. The roofing system in one of only two commercial green roofs in the state.
Nearly 100 people attended the ribbon cutting, including UMB Financial Chairman and CEO Mariner Kemper; Michael Hagedorn, CFO; and Peter deSilva, president and COO. Kemper discussed the importance of sustainable design and construction and the bank’s commitment to preserving resources. Afterwards, students from the Denver School of Science and Technology’s Go Green Club assisted with the ribbon cutting and were presented with a donation from UMB Financial.
The club focuses on creating projects that have a positive impact on the environment, exploring topics like recycling, sustainability, energy conservation and water conservation.
“We have been fortunate to assist a number of our clients in their sustainable construction efforts and are proud to have supported UMB’s goal to deliver an eco-friendly structure,” said Jason Crookshank, senior project manager for JE Dunn.
JE Dunn’s extensive banking facility experience includes working with Compass Bank to complete a number of banks throughout the Western United States. The JE Dunn group is currently the second largest commercial office builder in the country as ranked by Building Design and Construction.
