JE Dunn Construction, a commercial general contractor with instate offices in Denver and Colorado Springs, recently celebrated the topping out of Medical Center of Aurora.
The project encompasses a 112,000-sq-ft patient tower addition, 20,000 sq ft of remodel and a 205,000-sq-ft, four-level parking structure that will accommodate 548 spaces.
Nearly 100 people attended the ceremonial placement of the last piece of structural steel. The final piece of steel included the signatures of physicians, staff and project team members.
“It’s amazing 12 months later to celebrate this milestone,” said John Hill, president and CEO of Medical Center of Aurora. The project broke ground in February 2007.
Among the attendees were Ed Tauer, Mayor of Aurora, and Aurora City Council members Bob FitzGerald, Larry Beer and Brad Pierce. Also in attendance were physicians and staff, along with representatives from architect Perkins and Will and JE Dunn Construction.
The $41.7-million project is scheduled for completion in early 2009. The new tower will become home to a Cardiac Center of Excellence and an expanded intensive care unit. The project consists of a four-level nursing component totaling 24 medical/surgical beds and a new 12-bed ICU unit with approximately 40% shelled for future expansion. The scope also includes the construction of a new surface parking lot, pedestrian plaza, central plant expansion and new front entrance, providing more access to the facility for inpatient and outpatient services. The Medical Center of Aurora is part of the HealthOne System of Excellence.
JE Dunn’s recent hospital projects include Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland; Memorial Hospital North in Colorado Springs; Pikes Peak Regional Medical Center in Woodland Park; St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Neb.; and University of New Mexico Children's Hospital in Albuquerque.
