RTMD, Catamount Constructors Aids Resident in Need
As part of Rebuilding Together Metro Denver’s “National Rebuilding Day 2008,” RTMD and Catamount Constructors Inc. of Denver will provide aid to senior citizen Sylvia Hillen of 4330 West Center Ave. in Denver on April 26 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
At least 45 skilled Catamount construction and carpenter employees will volunteer and donate their time and materials to perform a variety of home repairs, including the installation of hand and guard rails on the front porch and steps; replacing the front and rear entry doors and storm doors; installing new light fixtures in the bathroom and kitchen, new kitchen and bathroom flooring; patching, repairing and painting ceilings, walls and trim in the bathroom and kitchen, and replacing the bathroom vanity and faucets.
“Our mission on April 26th will be to unite our forces for one day to make a significant impact in someone’s life. RTMD’s mission is our mission and we feel privileged to be a part of such a powerful community event,” said Jeff Cochran, Catamount Denver division president.
RTMD’s mission is to work in partnership with the community to rehabilitate the houses of low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly and disabled and families with children, so that they may live in warmth, safety and independence. Its goal is to make a sustainable impact in partnership with communities. On National Rebuilding Day, typically held on the last Saturday in April, the metro Denver chapter rehabs up to 40 houses, all within the timeframe of a one-day event.
“Year after year, Catamount’s employees continue to commit to Rebuilding Together Metro Denver, making a tremendous difference in our ability to accomplish our mission,” said Laurie McCaw, RTMD executive director. “Our staff, volunteers and board of directors extend our gratitude to Catamount for helping us preserve dignity and hope within the Denver metropolitan community.
“Having worked on the weekends for more than 20 years in a potato chip factory and lived in her home for over 49 years, Ms. Hillen’s story is one of survival and a steadfast commitment to community values. We are honored to provide these home improvement services to someone so deserving,” he said.
