At a special ceremony at the Colorado State Capital on May 1, Gov. Bill Ritter signed a proclamation declaring this week National Public Works Week in Colorado.
In attendance were the executive officers of the American Public Works Association, including national president Larry Frevert; Colorado chapter president Suzanne Moore; and Colorado chapter past-president Dave Frazier.
APWA represents public works professionals who are responsible for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the nation’s infrastructure systems, including streets, roadways and highways; water supply and distribution; wastewater collection and treatment; stormwater collection and conveyance; solid waste disposal; public buildings and other essential facilities.
APWA represents more than 29,000 professionals at the national level and over 700 professionals within Colorado.
In addition to their APWA responsibilities, Moore is also a senior project manager with the city of Greenwood Village, and Frazier is a vice president with Merrick & Co., a 450-person Colorado-based architectural engineering firm that provides public works consulting to Colorado municipalities.
Frevert is the national public works program director for HDR.
National Public Works Week is celebrated with several public events at local cities, counties, municipalities and state agencies.
