Pinkard Construction Co. of Lakewood, along with The Salvation Army, Denver’s RNL Design and many Salvation Army friends and supporters, recently broke ground on the $6.7 million Salvation Army Red Shield Recreation Center and renovation project in Denver.
The 30,840-sq-ft renovation will include infill of two open courtyards, a new entry/lobby, newly organized classrooms, new computer labs, drop-in seniors’ lounge, additional community spaces, restroom expansions, mechanical and electrical systems retrofit, new exterior windows and partial exterior re-skin.
The new 15,250-sq-ft recreation center will be constructed at the current basketball courts site across High Street from the Red Shield Center. It will include a gymnasium, administrative offices and dance studio. The two-story structure will have extensive glazing, CMU perimeter walls and a steel bar joist roof structure.
Based upon on-going fundraising, construction is expected to begin in September.
