2005 ACEC/CO Engineering Excellence Awards
Twenty-four Colorado engineering firms
vied for top honors at the American Council of Engineering
Companies of Colorado 2005 Engineering Excellence Awards on
Nov. 1.
The annual ACEC/CO competition recognizes
engineering achievements that demonstrate ingenuity and significant
technical, economic or social advancements by Colorado-based
engineering firms.
The five judging criteria were originality and innovation,
meeting and exceeding client needs, social and economic value,
complexity, and future value to the engineering profession.
The seven top entries will compete in the national ACEC competition
in Washington, D.C. in February 2005.
Grand Conceptor Award
Merrick & Co. for the Mustard Agent Decontamination project
in Edgewood, Maryland
Client - Bechtel National Inc. on behalf of the U.S. Army
Chemical Materials Agency
Merrick performed the detailed design, procurement, fabrication,
assembly, shop testing, delivery and start-up support of the
TCC system for installation at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds
in Edgewood. A one-of-a-kind, 185-ft long, 12-station system
had to meet a wide range of complex, critical and demanding
requirements while ensuring safety, maintainability, efficiency
and reliability of process operations.
