The Best Colorado Projects of 2007
Gold Hard Hat Awards Criteria for Projects:
The annual Gold Hard Hat Awards is a competition to determine the best projects completed by Colorado firms in a calendar year. The projects are submitted by firms involved in some aspect of a project, and there is no charge for entries.
.Judging was done by a panel of industry experts, and based on design quality and innovation, craftsmanship, the project’s contribution to the community and the industry, solution of unique design and construction challenges and overall excellence. The size of the project was not a factor in the judging.
Eligibility:
- Project sites must be located in Colorado.
- Projects must be completed or at least 90% completed between Jan. 1, 2007 and Dec. 31, 2007.
- Firms were allowed to nominate one project per category, and each project could be entered in only one category.
- Entries could be submitted by any of the firms working on a project, including owners, architects, engineers, contractors and subs.
- To avoid any potential conflicts of interest, judges abstained from voting in categories that included projects in which they or their firms were involved.
Ned Foster
Pinkard Construction
Ned Foster has been with Denver’s Pinkard Construction since 2002 and writing for engineering and construction since 1999. As Pinkard’s proposal writer, Foster has written six Eagle-award winning submittals for the ABC National Excellence in Construction awards. He serves on ABC’s National Business Development Committee and is a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals.
John Williams
President
John Williams Architecture PC
John Williams has more than 30 years of experience, including designing over 225 diverse commercial, housing and recreational projects. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado and licensed in 13 states. He was the 2001 president of AIA Colorado.
Jill Kurth
Civitas Inc.
Jill Kurth is a landscape architect with Denver’s Civitas Inc. Inspired by city life, Kurth advocates the design of public spaces that integrate people with architecture, the urban fabric and the environment. Her projects include a broad range of designs, with an emphasis on green-roof construction. She holds an MLA from the University of Colorado at Denver, and was the recipient of the National ASLA Honor Award.
Chuck Keyes
Martin/Martin Inc.
Chuck Keyes, a principal and board of directors member with Denver’s Martin/Martin Inc., has more than 35 years of practice in the A/E/C industry. He is a registered professional engineer in Colorado and five other states, has extensive experience in the evaluation, conceptual phase and complete structural engineering design of all types of structures. He has authored numerous articles and taught structural classes at the University of Denver and the University of Colorado.
Jason Golden
MW Golden Constructors
Jason Golden has more than 10 years of experience in the construction industry. He has had a well-rounded career during that time, working in various industry roles, including as a carpenter, superintendent, project manager, and currently, as chief estimator for Denver’s MW Golden Constructors.
Derek Cunz
M.A. Mortenson
Derek Cunz is the director of project development for M.A. Mortenson Construction’s Colorado Operating Group in Denver. Cunz is a leader at Mortenson and across the industry in the implementation and utilization of virtual design and construction. In 2006 he was named a top 25 newsmaker by Engineering News-Record for his work associated with building information modeling.
