Nolte Associates Inc. recently announced the appointment of Lance Malburg and Robert Van Uffelen as associates.
Malburg, from the Denver office, is a registered engineer specializing in site engineering for public and private clients. During the past 13 years, he has led the preparation of drainage and utility reports and feasibility studies, analysis and design of storm sewer and detention systems, and design of sanitary sewer and water mains.
Van Uffelen, an engineering manager in Nolte’s Fort Collins office, has 23 years of project management, site planning, development and civil infrastructure design experience for both private property owners and municipalities along the Front Range. Van Uffelen’s experience includes site, street, water, sanitary sewer, grading, drainage and storm sewer design for commercial, industrial, residential and municipal sites.
Nolte also recently announced the promotion of Murray McBride to director of its Denver office. McBride has taken on many new responsibilities, including financial, administrative and staff accountability. He also now oversees the engineering, construction management and survey groups for the office.
Drexel, Barrell & Co. recently announced the addition of Michael T. Mordi and Arnold A. Potthast as project managers in the firm’s Steamboat Springs regional office.
Mordi is experienced in the project management and civil engineering design of residential, commercial and mixed-use development projects and is a CDOT-certified Erosion Control Inspector. His current assignments include design development for the Mt. Werner Circle/Apres Ski Way Roundabout in Steamboat Springs and design for the city of Steamboat Springs’ new sidewalk master plan.
Potthast is a skilled professional with experience designing and managing a wide range of civil engineering and surveying projects. He is currently working on the Poplar Street/CR 53 design in Hayden and the Heaven’s Gate Subdivision in Yampa. Potthast earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota.
Denver-based CH2M Hill has appointed new leaders within its Industrial Client Group the firm’s division focused on serving multinational industrial clients with a range of engineering, procurement and construction services.
Mike McKelvy is the new president and group chief executive for the Industrial Client Group. He is responsible for overseeing operations and project delivery for a group generating $1.3 billion in revenue.
Mike Gearhart has been appointed president of manufacturing and life sciences. He will be responsible for global project execution of a group generating more than $350 million in annual revenue and working on projects throughout North and South America, Europe, China and Russia.
Steve Gelman will head the new Industrial Systems group, which provides full-service solutions to industrial and government clients related to water and wastewater, air quality, renewable energy, audits and compliance, site selection, permitting and licensing and sustainable development.
Bernard Amadei, professor of civil, environmental and architectural engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, joining 15 other faculty from the campus who have been elected since the academy’s formation in 1962.
Amadei was among 65 new members of the academy announced Feb. 8.
Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded an engineer. Amadei was recognized for his creation of the nonprofit Engineers Without Borders-USA, his leadership in sustainable development education and his research on geomechanics.
Monroe & Newell Engineers Inc. recently announced the promotion of Erica Stankelis to associate principal. She has been with the firm for 12 years and is responsible for recognizing markets, client relationships, marketing and business development.
Stankelis is actively involved with SMPS, including charing and co-chairing such committees as community affairs, sponsorship and is currently serving on the Sponsorship Committee as well as the 2008 National Conference Committee.
JVA Inc., a structural and civil engineering design firm based in Boulder, recently announced that Thomas S. Soell has been elected by the company’s board of directors to serve as the firm’s new president. He succeeds Robert B. Hunnes, who presided as president for 21 years. Soell has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri and more than 30 years of experience in educational, institutional, residential and commercial building design. He is a registered professional engineer in multiple states and a LEED-accredited professional.
Jim Bradburn of The RMH Group in Denver was recently elected treasurer of the board of directors of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Colorado Chapter. As treasurer, Bradburn will be responsible for the chapter’s financial oversight, including budgeting and long-term financial planning.
Bradburn is a mechanical engineer and sustainable services coordinator with The RMH Group. He has been with RMH for four years and holds a degree in mechanical technology from Purdue University. His recent projects include the LEED-registered Denver Zoo Asian Tropics exhibit and numerous assignments for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden.

Heery International recently announced the following appointments in the Denver office: Rich Wolfe to senior associate, Kelly Crowther to associate and Tony Wutsch to associate.
Denver-based JG Johnson Architects recently announced the addition of three new members to its staff.
Theo Giliotti has recently joined the firm as a designer. He earned a bachelor’s degree in construction management from Colorado State University and a master’s of architecture from the University of Colorado. He has more than 10 years of experience in the design and construction industry.
Katie Goldman joined as a job captain with more than seven years of experience in the industry. She earned her bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Kansas.
Sean Maloney has joined the firm as an architectural intern. He earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental design and his master’s of architecture from Montana State University.
RTA Architects of Colorado Springs recently announced the promotion of David L. Magargal to associate principal. His 29 years of architectural experience have instilled strong organizational abilities. After working for RTA at its inception, when it was known as Leland B. Roberts Associates, he returned to the firm in 2003 to direct the Construction Administration Department, where his organizational talents have been crucial to the success of the projects he works on, including the $207-million St. Francis Medical Center near Woodmen Road and Powers Boulevard.n
- Kimberly J. Harvey of CLC Associates Inc., a national planning, entitlements, architecture, engineering, landscape architecture and land surveying firm, has passed the Certified Development, Design and Construction Professional Exam.
The CDP is a new designation offered by the International Council of Shopping Centers and, according to their 2007 CDP handbook, is "designed to elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance and designate those who demonstrate knowledge essential to their respective practices of shopping center expertise."
- DHM recently announced that Tomina Townsend has been promoted to associate landscape architect in the Denver office. Townsend, a University of Kentucky graduate, has worked at DHM since January 2001 and developed a wide range of experience as a project designer and project manager for small and large-scale parks, trails, community and recreation projects. Tomina became LEED accredited in 2007.
Tomina has developed strong theming and creative skills on projects such as Ye Olde Castlewood Park and Happy Meadows Park in Colorado Springs. Her private and public projects also include award-winning residential design and streetscapes throughout the metro area.
