Southwest Memorial Hospital - Renovation & Expansion

Project Scope: As a rural hospital serving an aging population, up to 60 percent of Southwest Memorial's revenue comes from Medicare reimbursement. In addition, as with many rural hospitals that lack funds for new technology, care has shifted to outpatient services. Catering to this need, the 19,070-sq-ft addition and the 18,530-sq-ft renovation will include a laboratory, surgery, recovery, outpatient surgery, radiology, admitting/registration and lobby/waiting areas.

St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center - Phase One Expansion

Start: Fall 2003

Project Scope: The 230,000-sq-ft project includes a new emergency room, a new cancer center wing, a diagnostics area, intensive care unit and patient bed tower.

H.W. Houston is also providing preconstruction and construction services for a $16 million expansion and remodel of St. Thomas Moore Medical Center in Canon City, and it is the design-builder for a new $18 million replacement hospital in Delta.

Rock Creek Medical Office Building

Cost: $30 million
Location: Lafayette

Completion: April 2003

Project Scope: This specialized medical facility connected to Exempla Hospital is four stories tall and occupies 250,000 sq ft. Key features include a satellite pharmacy, exam rooms, laboratories for pathology, head/neck treatment, plastic surgery, infusion treatment (chemotherapy) and phototherapy treatment as well as a basement for material storage space.

Other Kaiser Permanente jobs being built by A&P include:

  • Kaiser Franklin Facility Remodel. Addition of a 12th story to an existing occupied and fully functioning facility. Renovation and relocation of several departments, including oncology, plastic surgery, radiology, neurosurgery and various labs. The addition of an operating room, minor procedures and ambulatory surgery center. Replacement of mechanical systems and upgrade of electrical systems. Architect: Davis Partnership

  • Wheat Ridge Medical Office Building Addition and Full Renovation. A 12,000-sq-ft addition plus 48,000-sq-ft renovation. Includes a new optical department, pharmacy, pediatrics, radiology, ob/gyn, internal medicine, blood lab and conference rooms.

    Colorado Plains Medical Center Expansion

    Project Scope: The two-story project includes 44,000 sq ft of new offices and a 17,270-sq-ft lobby connecting the new medical offices to the existing hospital.

    Mercy Medical Center
    Mercy Medical Center, Durango

    Cost: $76 million (overall cost); $46 million (construction cost)

    Start: April 2004
    Completion: June 2006

    Project Scope: A 220,000-sq-ft, 82-bed full-service hospital with a Level Two trauma center. Includes full radiology services, pediatrics, labor and delivery, operating rooms and upscale patient and visitor amenities. All outpatient services will be connected off a central atrium for easy patient wayfinding. A 180,000-sq-ft medical office building will be attached to the hospital.

    Penrose-St. Francis Hospital Expansion

    Location: Colorado Springs

    Project Scope: The 275,000-sq-ft project includes a new chapel, parking garage expansion, a six-floor bed tower with two levels of medical office space and a loading dock.

    St. Anthony North Hospital Expansion

    Location: Westminster
    Cost: $5.3 million
    Owner: Centura Health
    Architect: H+L Architecture
    Contractor: The Weitz Co.
    Start: Jan. 2002
    Completion: Feb. 2003

    Project Scope: A 24,000-sq-ft third-floor vertical expansion onto the existing facility while all components of the hospital remained active. The addition placed 25 more patient beds into service, with integrated monitoring devices, headwall units and medical gasses. The existing elevator cores had to be extended and two new elevators were added.

    Porter Adventist Hospital

    Completion: Fall 2006

    Project Scope: A total of 214,000 sq ft, consisting of 110,000 sq ft of new construction and 104,000 sq ft of renovations. Work includes a new main entry and lobby, new surgery addition, new ICU/CCU addition, renovation of two patient floors and a new parking structure for 625 cars.

    Platte Valley Medical Center

    Project Scope: The new hospital campus will have 108 patient beds and, at more than 220,000 sq ft, will be twice the size of the existing facility. The campus will also include a 50,000-sq-ft medical office building for specialty services.

    Project Scope: Includes 84,000 sq ft of additions, including a new kitchen, mechanical room, emergency department, ICU and special care, and medical/surgical facility. In addition, 8,000 sq ft of the existing facility will be renovated.
