AGC and NASFA Release CM/GC Guidelines
for Public Owners
The Associated General Contractors of America and the National
Association of State Facilities Administrators have released
a new joint publication to provide guidance on the use of
CM/GC - also known in the industry as CM at Risk - in the
public sector. The CM/GC Guidelines for Public Owners is designed
to help public owners understand this project delivery method
and provide insight on its application in the public construction
market.
AGC and NASFA have been working together for the last several
years to help bridge the communication gap between public
owners and the construction community. An AGC-NASFA Joint
Committee now exists to work on key industry issues and provide
necessary guidance as a public owner-general contractor team.
For more information or to order the guidelines, contact
AGC at 800-AGC-1767 or NASFA at 859-244-8181.
Cement Manufacturers Pledge to Cut
Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Members of the Portland Cement Association have adopted the
goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions per ton of product
by 10 percent - from 1990 levels - by the year 2020. The goal
is consistent with the Bush administration's climate change
initiative termed "Climate VISION" to reduce greenhouse
gasses through voluntary industry programs.
The industry is now implementing a three-part program to
achieve its goal and foster reductions by cement users. The
three parts address the cement manufacturing process, product
formulation and product application:
- Reduce emissions through increased efficiency, decreased
fuel use, increased use of alternative fuels and raw materials;
- Formulate cements using a lower portion of calcined material,
thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions per unit of product;
and
- Promote the use of energy-efficient concrete buildings,
homes and highways as a solution to climate change.
