Colorado Executive Director Recognized by ASA National

Debra Miller, executive director of the American Subcontractors Association of Colorado, has been recognized by ASA National as its "Outstanding Chapter Executive."

Miller was recognized for spearheading the Fourth Annual Colorado Construction Industry Premier Event, which raises funds for industry training and encourages partnering relationships with local chapters of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, the American Institute of Constructors and many individual firms.

In March, ASA gave national recognition to five ASA volunteers for individual accomplishments and seven ASA chapters for outstanding achievements.

AGC and Building Futures Council Announce Strategic Partnership

The Associated General Contractors of America and the Building Futures Council have agreed on a strategic partnership in which AGC will provide support for the activities of BFC. BFC is an independent, nonprofit corporation composed of senior executives of organizations engaged in all aspects of the building and construction process, including private and public owners, planners, engineers, architects, constructors, attorneys, financiers, accountants, insurers, investors and academics.

The AGC-BFC agreement calls for AGC administration of BFC meetings, membership and general operating procedures. AGC will manage BFC apart from its other association activities, and BFC will continue to act as independent entity. AGC and BFC are planning to conduct their Fall 2003 leadership meetings in Washington, D.C., at the Hyatt Regency Washington, September 15-16, affording members of both organizations the opportunity to attend the other's events and programs.

NSPS Recognizes Stoughton

Dr. Herbert W. Stoughton, PE, PLS, CP, the head of the surveying and mapping program at Metropolitan State College of Denver, has been selected for the 2003 Surveying Excellence Award by the National Society of Professional Surveyors. The award recognizes the individual who has made an outstanding contribution or has performed an outstanding service to the surveying profession.

Stoughton has been a surveyor and mapper for nearly 45 years and today is a key reason for the successful comeback of the surveying and mapping program at MSCD. He has expanded the curriculum to include 31 courses, offered classes at off-campus sites, developed transfer credit programs for more than 70 post-secondary institutions and prepare the program for ABET accreditation.

His efforts have helped the program increase its enrollment by more than 150 percent and make it one of the most respected and sought-after surveying and mapping programs in the United States.
