NAWIC CAD Competition Winners/ASA Industry Awards/ACEC Certifies Expert Witnesses
The local chapter of the American Subcontractors Association
honored its 2004 award winners at a banquet in April.
NAWIC Announces CAD Competition Winners
The winners of the National Association of Women in Construction
and The Classic Companies' CAD/Design/Drafting Competition
2004 were announced at an awards ceremony held recently at
the East Library and Information Center in Colorado Springs.
The ceremony was the culmination of months of preparation
by 46 students from four area high schools. The students were
asked to design a 7,000-sq-ft home for teens in transition
called Teenbridge. A panel of 25 judges, all Colorado Springs
construction industry professionals, judged the design entries.
Judging was based on the completeness and accuracy of each
drawing - floor plan, electrical plan, elevations, building
sections and site plan - and how well it met the needs and
desires of the client. The judges awarded points for creativity,
presentation, hand lettering and the use of CAD functions.
First place winners were awarded a check for $200; second
place winners got $100, and third place winners received $50.
The competition introduces high school students to the construction
industry in a positive and challenging way and provides mentoring
opportunities between students and professionals in the industry.
