AIA STOPP Task Force Tackles Denver Permitting Process

The American Institute of Architects' STOPP Task Force presented a panel discussion - "Denver's Development Review Process: Can It Be Saved?" - for members of the State Government Network during its semi-annual national conference in late July in Denver.

The STOPP task force - or Streamline Our Permitting Process - has studied the city's development review process for the past 14 months. A report published a year ago identified deficiencies in the current system. The report has been adopted by the AIA as a national model for cities to examine their own building permitting process.

Task force members participating in the conference included Dyan Humphries, PA, marketing director at MNA Inc.; Ben Wilking, AIA, director of design-build at Lantz-Boggio Architects; Seth Rosenman, AIA, principal at Root Rosenman Architects; Dick Farley, FAIA, principal at Civitas Inc.; and Mace Pemberton, P.E., principal civil engineer at MNA Inc.

ABC Urges Participation in Online Survey

The Associated Builders and Contractors is encouraging its members to participate in a new Web-based survey launched by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

The survey was created to study the relevance, usefulness and effectiveness of financial statements prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for privately held companies.

It is available at http://survey.themsrgroup.com/aicpa.html (http://www.aicpa.org/news/2004/2004_0712.htm) through Sept. 15.

The survey is part of an AICPA initiative designed to conduct unbiased research on the question of whether general purpose financial statements of privately held, for-profit entities - prepared in accordance with GAAP - meet the needs of all constituents of that reporting.

The effort will be led by a task force of representatives from various stakeholder groups selected by AICPA.

ASCE Taking Input on Structural Industry Standards

The public comment period is one of the final stages of the consensus standards development process and will be conducted utilizing ASCE's Web-based balloting system.

Anyone who wishes to comment should contact Eileen Boeing, ASCE standards coordinator, at eboeing@asce.org, for specific instructions. The appropriate SEI standards committee will review and address all comments submitted through the public ballot.
