CCA Elects New Officers/ASAC Announces 2005 Board of Directors/RMMI Lunch Seminars Continue

ARS's Kim Haarberg was sworn in as the 2005 CCA president during the association's 72nd annual conference in late January.

CCA Elects New Officers, Presents Annual Awards

The Colorado Contractors Association elected 2005 officers during its 72nd annual convention in January in Lone Tree.

The new officers are Kim Haarberg of ARS Inc., Littleton, president; John West, Connell Resources Inc., Steamboat Springs, vice president; and Toni Lynn Pascal, Pascal Construction Co., Golden, treasurer.

The newly elected chairman of CCA's Associate Council is Larrie Weaver, Tire Distribution Systems, Golden. Other Associate Council officers are vice chairman Mike Rooney, Worldwide Rental Services, Denver; and secretary Jay Kade, Zurich North America Surety.

CCA also announced a host of other awards during the convention. They included:

  • Contractor of the Year - Mark Wachal of Recycled Materials Co.
  • Associate of the Year - Steve Holt of Felsburg, Holt & Ullevig.

ASAC Announces 2005 Board of Directors

The American Subcontractors Association of Colorado recently named its 2005 board of directors and officers. They are Dave Barber of RWI Contractors/River's Edge Woodworking, president; Robert Wilson of Zimkor LLC, vice president; Connie Rivera of HRH of Colorado, secretary; Kevin Craft of Rocky Mountain Metalcraft Inc., treasurer; and Pem Eberlein of A.P. Eberlein Co., past president.

The remaining board members are Rich Forsberg, Forsberg Engerman Co.; Andy Cooper, Dan Berich Inc.; Darrell Dinkel, Design Drywall Specialities Inc.; Ron Siegle, Wells Fargo Bank; Theresa Wernimont, Colorado Sash & Door Inc.; and Chris Walter, TriStar Drywall.


Drinkwater Named Finalist for ABC National Honor

Ray Drinkwater of Greiner Electric LLC in Littleton was named one of seven finalists in the Associated Builders and Contractors' Craft Professional of the Year competition. The winner was scheduled to be announced at the organization's annual convention in late February.

Drinkwater represented the ABC Rocky Mountain Chapter.


RMMI's Lunch & Learn Seminars Return

The Rocky Mountain Masonry Institute will hold its third Lunch and Learn seminar in 2005 on March 9, featuring a program called "Prestressed Masonry Design" with Trey Hamilton, PE, PhD, a professor of civil engineering at the University of Florida who recently moved to the United States from Europe.

Hamilton will discuss prestressed masonry, a design option that takes advantage of masonry's compression capacity while reducing reducing material and labor costs. The seminar will cover the new MSJC code requirements for prestressed masonry and highlight typical applications in use throughout the country.

The remainder of the 2005 RMMI seminars, for which speakers will be announced later, are:

  • April 13 - "Fire-Safe Masonry Design and Construction"
  • May 11 - "The Role of Masonry in LEED and Sustainable Design"
  • July 13 - "Angkor Wat and Easter Island: Exploring Ancient Methods of Building"

  • Sept. 14 - "Quality Assurance in Masonry Design and Construction"

AGC Natl. Sets Legislative Priorities for 109th Congress

The Associated General Contractors of America has announced its new legislative priorities for the next two years, calling on the U.S. Congress to increase investment in highway and transit improvements, expand infrastructure investment to promote economic growth and make the tax cuts permanent.

Among its top priorities, AGC is committed to the reauthorization of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century, a federal highway and transit program that will create jobs, reduce congestion, upgrade road conditions and save lives.

At a time when approximately 84 percent of U.S. goods are delivered via the highway system, AGC officials noted that it's crucial to maintain and improve the conditions of America's roads.


PVC Institute Will Offer New Short Course

The PVC Geomembrane Institute and CETCO will offer two sessions of a new short course, "Constructing with GCLs and PVC Geomembranes," in March in Denver and Cheyenne.

The first session will take place on March 7 at the Denver Merchandising Mart, 451 E. 58th Ave. The next one is set for the following day, March 8, at the Little America Hotel, 2800 W Lincolnway, Cheyenne.

NRMCA Increases Staff to Lobby Federal Issues

To increase its presence on Capitol Hill and more forcefully advocate the industry's positions to federal lawmakers, the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association has added two experienced advocacy professionals to its government affairs staff.

Gerald Fritz and Bob Sullivan have been added the association's government relations staff.

Fritz and Sullivan join Jennifer LeFevre, a NRMCA director of government relations. Each of them reports to NRMCA President Robert Garbini.
