Denver SDA Names Its Leadership/CAPA Gives Grant to CSU Asphalt Lab/Colorado Firms, Projects Win Gold Nuggets

Colorado projects that won Gold Nuggets Awards this year included the Brownstones at Riverfront Park, the Stapleton redevelopment and Blake Street Flats in Denver, as well as La Bellezza at Peregrine in Colorado Springs and the Barrett Ranch in Peyton. Local firms that won for out-of-state projects included Fentress Bradburn Architects, Woodley Architectural Group and Hensel Phelps Construction Co.

Denver SDA Names 2006-2007 Leadership

The Denver Chapter of the Society for Design Administration's officers for 2006-2007 are president, Pomelia Bowers, The RMH Group; vice president, Karen Roman, Intergroup Inc.; secretary, Jill Wyatt, H+L Architecture; and treasurer, Theresa Ikeda, Mark Hoskin Architects.

The directors are Lou Ann Hight, SlaterPaull Architects Inc.; Sally Disciullo, Monroe & Newell Engineers; Wendy Houghtaling, Marsh & Associates Inc.; and Anne McNeely, Gensler.


CAPA Awards CSU Grant for Asphalt Lab Naming Rights

The Colorado Asphalt Paving Association presented a $50,000 grant to representatives of the Colorado State University Construction Management Department for naming rights to the school's new asphalt laboratory.

A portion of the grant money will be used for laboratory renovation. Completion of the facility is expected later this year. Course instruction and basic asphalt research is set to start in January.


Denver Place Wins BOMA Earth Award

Denver Place was presented in June with The Earth Award by the Building Owners and Managers Association International, which recognizes excellence in environmentally sound office building management.

Denver Place distinguished itself in areas such as indoor air quality, hazard communications standard programs, green purchasing policies and for its reserved parking program for hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles.


Colorado Companies Win Gold Nuggets Awards

Several Colorado companies and projects were among the winners of the Pacific Coast Builders Conference's 2006 Gold Nuggets Awards, presented in June at PCBC's annual conference in San Francisco.

The winning projects and companies from Colorado are:

Best Public/Private Special Use Facility

  • Sacramento City Hall, Sacramento - Builder, Hensel Phelps Construction Co.; developer, David S. Taylor Interests Inc.; architect, Fentress Bradburn Architects; landscape architect, Quadriga Landscape Architecture.
