ASCE Honors Wright/ACEC
Makes Hoffman a Fellow/AGC Colorado Launches Fleet Program
The American Society of Civil Engineers
will honor Kenneth Wright, CFO and chief engineer of Denver's
Wright Water Engineers, as an honorary member during the organization's
annual civil-engineering conference this month in Chicago.
Denver Engineer to be Awarded Honorary ASCE
Kenneth Wright, PE, FASCE, Hon.M.ASCE, is to be named an
honorary member of the American Society of Civil Engineers
later this month. The society's highest accolade, active honorary
membership, is comprised of only 186 of ASCE's 139,000 members
worldwide.
Wright will receive the award - in honor of his exemplary
performance as a water resources engineer, businessman, author
and mentor - this month at ASCE's annual civil-engineering
conference in Chicago.
As CFO and chief engineer of Denver's Wright Water Engineers,
Wright works on the design of water-related systems. He also
serves as president of the Wright Paleohydrological Institute,
an organization he founded in 1998 to further the knowledge
of past civilizations through the study of ancient water management
practices.
Checklist Created to Help
Industry Handle I-9 Process
A master checklist to help guide contractors through the
complex web of federal and state regulations relating to the
hiring of immigrant workers has been compiled by immigration
attorney Ann Allott of the Allot Immigration Law Firm.
Allot was a panelist in an Associated General Contractors
of Colorado and Colorado Contractors Association immigration
seminar held late this summer.
The document provides a checklist and detailed instructions
on the process employers should use to ensure they are complying
with current hiring rules.
The AGC/C-CCA immigration law seminar is also available on
DVD for those who couldn't attend the seminar but want to
review its content. The DVD package also includes a copy of

HDR's Rod Hoffman Named ACEC Fellow
Rod Hoffman, a senior vice president for HDR in Denver, was
inducted last month into the American Council of Engineering
Companies' College of Fellows, an elite group who have made
significant contributions to the engineering profession.
An ACEC/CO member since 1990, Hoffman served as the chapter's
president in 2001. He was also vice chair of ACEC's national
executive committee from 2004 to 2005 and senior vice chair
from 2005 to 2006. He serves as a faculty member for the Senior
Executive Institute, ACEC's executive leadership development
program, and is active in several other engineering organizations
at the state and local levels.
ACEC/CO Awards Nearly $26K in Scholarships
The American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado
has awarded $25,500 in student scholarships to promote the
study of engineering.
Scholarship recipients for 2006-2007 are Christi Welter,
Colorado School of Mines; Rae Rossetti, Colorado State University;
Lauren Walker, CSU; Kevin Owens, University of Colorado at
Boulder; Scott Schnake, CU-Boulder; Levi Smith, CU-Boulder;
Daniel Wilson, CSU; and Keri Schafer, CSU.
Mark Fairbanks, a student at Ponderosa High School in Parker,
received a scholarship for his bridge design entry in the
annual high school bridge-building contest, co-sponsored with
Professional Engineers of Colorado and the Bureau of Reclamation.

AGC/C Launches Fleet Central Program
The Associated General Contractors of Colorado has begun
a Fleet Central program for members, offering them the opportunity
to lease or purchase vehicles at special prices from dealers
such as Dodge, Ford, GMC and Toyota.
Other services include inspections at a discounted rate for
light- to medium-weight vehicles; tracking systems with supporting
management tools; and up-to-date information on bio-diesel
fuels, state and federal legislative action about on- and
off-road commercial vehicles and estimating project fuel costs.
AGC Colorado Fleet Central partners include Enterprise Fleet
Services, John Elway Dodge, Phillips 66, SageQuest Inc., Station

NAHB Seeks Entries for Industry Awards Competition
Apartment owners and developers, property managers, architects,
interior designers and others involved in the multifamily
housing industry are eligible to enter the 2006 Pillars of
the Industry Awards competition, sponsored by the National
Association of Home Builders.
The Pillars Awards honor excellence in apartment and condominium
design and development, as well as leadership in marketing
and property management. This year's awards categories, updated
to reflect the changing dynamics of the current market, include
"Best Condo Hotel," as well as "Best Adaptive
Reuse" of a nonresidential building to either apartments
or condos. The application process has also been simplified
so that it can be done online.
