NAIOP Showcases ProLogis HQ/Reimer Leads ACEC-CO/SWEP Sweeps Into State/SMPS Colorado Tops 200-Member Mark

The LEED-certified ProLogis headquarters in Denver is one of 19 projects featured in “Exceptional Green Buildings,” a compact disc compilation of green commercial real estate development case studies released by the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.

ProLogis HQ Featured in NAIOP Green Building CD

The National Association of Industrial and Office Properties has released a compact disc compilation of green commercial real estate development case studies, including the ProLogis corporate headquarters in Denver.

The building is one of 19 green projects highlighted in “Exceptional Green Buildings,” which features details on such sustainable elements as water efficiency, energy, design innovations and indoor environmental quality. It also offers direct thoughts from developers about the reasons for developing green and how such properties can yield revenue.

“Exceptional Green Buildings” is available at the NAIOP Bookstore – www.naiop.org/bookstore – for $49.95.


Reimer Takes Reins as New ED at ACEC-CO

Marilen Reimer assumed leadership of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado in January. She succeeded former executive director Sandy Donnel, who retired at the end of 2006 after serving the council for 25 years. Reimer has worked for ACEC-CO since 1991 and served as its assistant executive director since 1998.


DBIA Rocky Mountain Names 2007 Board of Directors

The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Design-Build Institute of America announced its 2007 board of directors, elected during its annual meeting in December.

SWEP Charters New Rocky Mountain Chapter

The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Society of Women Environmental Professionals held its inaugural meeting in January.

SWEP is a national organization with chapters in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The Rocky Mountain Chapter is the first chapter established in the western region. It is open to all women involved or interested in environmental law, science, business and policy. Charter members include attorneys, consulting scientists and engineers, nonprofit organizations, students, educators, government employees and people working in the regulatory community.

AIA National Will Honor Rocky Mountain Institute.

The Rocky Mountain Institute will be one of 10 recipients of the 2007 Institute Honors for Collaborative Achievement presented in June at the AIA 2007 national convention and design exposition in San Antonio. RMI is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit “think-and-do” tank founded in 1982 in Snowmass and Boulder by Amory and Hunter Lovins. RMI’s staff of 55 today includes three architects, four engineers and other design professionals. Research activities cover three areas—built environment, energy and resources and breakthrough design.


APA to Honor Clarion for Work on ‘PlanCheyenne’

Clarion Associates in Fort Collins was the lead consultant on the team that received the American Planning Association’s 2007 Daniel Burnham Award, which recognizes an organization whose efforts have contributed to elevating planning principles, creating greater awareness of the value of planning and improving the quality of life in communities.

The award was given for the development of “PlanCheyenne,” a project designed to meet Cheyenne’s need to become a more attractive and economically vital city while respecting the area’s historic western heritage and culture. Representatives for the city of Cheyenne, Clarion Associates, Laramie County and other supporting participants will receive the award on April 17 during APA’s National Planning Conference in Philadelphia.


SMPS Colorado Hits 200-Member Mark

The Colorado Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services grew to 200 members in late 2006.

The group was formed in 1979 with a handful of principals and marketers in the emerging field of professional services marketing, says Marilyn Hennesey, FSMPS, founding member, past chapter president and president of Hennesey Consulting.

The Colorado chapter ranks among the 10 largest of the organization’s 53 chapters. Locally, the association provides education and business development opportunities to those responsible for marketing in the architecture, engineering and construction industry. Technical Papers Sought for PCI’s Bridge Conference

Planning is under way for the 2007 National Bridge Conference, set for Oct. 22-24 in Phoenix.

Technical papers for the event are being solicited, with abstracts due by April 6 and written papers due by July 2. Details of the abstract formats, as well as the conference, can be found at www.pci.org.

The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute and Federal Highway Administration will sponsor the conference, considered the premier venue for the exchange of ideas and state-of-the-art information on bridge design, fabrication and construction. It will be held in conjunction with PCI’s annual convention and exhibition.
