ASA National Honors Hulm/Martinez Named HCC’s 2007 ‘Advocate’/AWWA’s Morley Is Tops with TISP
A number of A/E/C firms and professionals from throughout Colorado were recognized in March during awards banquets on the national and local levels. They included Maynard Hulm, president of Hulm Construction in Parker; RTD board chairman Chris Martinez; Sarah Clarke of HDR Engineering; and Kevin Morley of the Lakewood-based American Water Works Association.
Hulm Presented with ASA Lifetime Service Award
The American Subcontractors Association honored Maynard Hulm, president of Hulm Construction in Parker, with the John H. Hampshire Distinguished Lifetime Service Award, the association’s highest honor. He was recognized March 22 during the ASA Business Forum & Convention 2007 in Tucson.
Hulm, president of ASA from 1998-99, was initially elected to and served two full terms on the ASA board of directors, during which the association’s officers twice elected him to an at-large seat on the executive committee. He then served as an officer and held each position on the executive committee before being elected president.
Hispanic Contractors Honor RTD Chairman
The Hispanic Contractors of Colorado has named Chris Martinez, board chairman for the Regional Transportation District, its Community Advocate of 2007.
The award was one of a dozen awards presented during the group’s 17th annual awards banquet in March. Winners were:
• Board Member of the Year–José Arnaldo Amaya of J.E. Dunn Construction, Denver
• General Contractor of the Year–J.E. Dunn Construction
• Subcontractor of the Year–LEI Cos. Inc., Denver
• Service Company of the Year–CRS Insurance Brokerage, Denver
• Supplier Company of the Year–United Rentals
• Emerging Business of the Year–Silvercool Service Co., Broomfield
• Large General Contractor Safety Award–Roche Constructors, Greeley
• Small General Contractor Safety Award–Engineered Construction Systems, Denver
• Large Subcontractor Safety Award–AMI Mechanical Inc., Thornton
• Small Subcontractor Safety Award–LEI Cos. Inc.
Ten-year membership awards were also presented to AMI Mechanical and Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP of Denver.
Local Contractors Earn AGC/Willis Safety Awards
The Associated General Contractors of America named the winners of the AGC/Willis Construction Safety Excellence Awards during its 88th annual convention, held in March in San Antonio. Local winners were:
Specialty Contracting
• Trautman & Shreve Inc. of Denver–first-place in the 700,001 to 1 million work hours category
Building Division
• Calcon Constructors Inc. of Englewood–first place in the 100,001 to 300,000 work hours category
• Haselden Construction LLC of Centennial–first place in the 300,001 to 700,000 work hours category
• Hensel Phelps Construction Co. of Greeley–second place in the 1-million-plus work hours category
ACEC-CO Honors Outstanding Woman, Five New Faces in Engineering
Sarah Clark, PE, a 24-year-veteran of the industry who works for HDR Engineering, was named the American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado’s 2007 Outstanding Woman in Engineering.
The council also recognized the following five people as its 2007 New Faces in Engineering honorees:
• Scott Paling, PE, a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines, who now serves as a senior project engineer at Martin/Martin, specializing in site development projects
• Britton Evans, PE, a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, a Martin/Martin project manager involved with site development, water/wastewater and sport field/recreation complex specialties
• Jamie Eichenberger, a design engineer with Rickard P. Arber Associates Inc., who is also a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines
• Kevin Greer, a design engineer with Richard P. Arber Associates and a graduate of the University of Colorado
• Jennifer Stillman, EIT, an engineer with HDR Engineering Inc. and an expert in water treatment plant and pump station design for local, national and international projects.
AWWA’s Morley Honored by TISP
Kevin Morley of the Lakewood-based American Water Works Association has received a 2007 Distinguished Leadership in Critical Infrastructure Resilience Award from The Infrastructure Security Partnership.
Morley received the Leadership the Private Sector Award at a March luncheon at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va. He was joined by fellow honoree, Brig. Gen. Robert Crear of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who received the Leadership for the Public Sector Award.
Morley was recognized for helping organize the Water and Wastewater Agency Response Networks in response to Hurricane Katrina. He also helped develop a joint policy statement on mutual aid and assistance networks for water and wastewater organizations.
He is working now through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact to address interstate issues for utilities crossing state lines to provide recovery assistance.
