AGC, CCA Make Immigration Compliance Help Available/ASID Colorado Announces New Board of Directors/ASLA Honors Four Colorado Firms with National Awards
Local associations are helping members wade through the maze of immigration compliance issues by creating a master checklist of procedures.
Associations Help Firms
With Immigration Compliance
In light of two recently enacted Colorado immigration laws (HB 1343 and SB 1017) and to ensure compliance with the Federal I-9 process, CCA and AGC of Colorado have asked immigration attorney Ann Allott of the Allot Immigration Law Firm in Centennial to create a master checklist to help guide contractors through the complex web of federal and state regulations relating to the hiring of immigrant workers.
The document provides a checklist and detailed instructions on the process employers should use to ensure they are complying with current hiring rules. To obtain the list or for more information, go to www.coloradocontractors.org or call 303-290-6611.
New Report Says Smart Growth Helps Alleviate Global Warming
Environment Colorado, The Urban Land Institute and its district council, ULI Colorado, and the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Sierra Club released a 160-page report titled “Growing Cooler: The Evidence on Urban Development and Climate Change.”
The report reveals extensive research completed by ULI Colorado and its partners on the relationship between urban development and the carbon dioxide emitted by vehicles. Research conducted by these groups reveals that Colorado is in the top tier nationally for how much residents drive.

Alliance for Sustainable Colorado Lauds Implementation of SB 51
With the High Performance Building Act, also known as SB 51, in effect as of Sept. 1, the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado applauded the leadership of state government in spurring green real estate development in the public and private sectors, and further propelling Colorado’s burgeoning sustainable economy. The High Performance Certification program, the implementation policy for SB 51, requires state agencies or departments embarking upon a substantial renovation, design or construction of a state-assisted facility of more than 5,000 sq ft to pursue U.S. Green Building Council LEED-gold certification. Additionally, projects that receive at least 25% of their funding from the state must also pursue LEED-gold certification.
ACE Mentor Program Launches National Initiative
The Architecture, Construction and Engineering Mentor Program announced in September that it has stepped up its nationwide efforts to introduce high school and college students to potential careers in the industry.
Created to address the growing need for skilled professionals in the architecture, construction and engineering industries—a need that could become a crisis if current employment trends continue—the ACE initiative is backed by a coalition of the industry’s top companies, which includes Turner Construction, EMCOR Group, PSI, Gilbane Building Co. and McGraw-Hill Construction, among many others.
The program includes localized outreach and mentoring to students in the 90 markets across the country where ACE has a presence to introduce them to career opportunities in the industry. The mission of the organization is twofold: to enlighten and motivate students toward architecture, construction, engineering and related careers; and to provide mentoring opportunities for future designers and constructors.
