Anchor Center Earns Workplace Design Award/ CITC Announces 2008 Graduates/ ACEC Awards Scholarships
Anchor Center Receives CBCA’s Top Award
Denver’s Anchor Center for Blind Children was recently awarded the 2008 Business for the Arts Award for exceptional workplace design.
Davis Partnership Architects of Denver designed the nationally recognized school for visually impaired preschoolers. Other finalists included The Children’s Hospital and San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center.
The $5.2-million, state-of-the-art Anchor Center is packed with sensory elements to make learning intuitive for children with a wide range of visual impairments, enabling them to “see” the world with all the senses available to them.
The CBCA judges acknowledged Anchor Center’s new facility for embracing all of the senses and the building’s integrated role as a teaching tool itself. “Anchor Center for Blind Children’s buildings and grounds themselves have also been designed as art forms through their use of color, texture and sound,” the judges wrote.
Swinerton Builders of Arvada served as the general contractor and won a Silver ACE Award from the Associated General Contractors of Colorado for the project.
