Aardex Building Wins NAIOP Sustainability Award/ConsensusDOCS Garner More Industry Support/ASA Creates Ethics Program
State’s First LEED-Platinum Building Honored This Month
The Signature Centre, home to Golden’s Aardex LLC, has won a prestigious national award for its innovation and sustainability. The National Association of Industrial and Office Properties announced in August that the Signature Centre was one of two winners of its annual Green Development Award. NAIOP represents commercial real estate executives who do industrial, office and mixed-use developments.
The Signature Centre, completed in June 2007, is a LEED-platinum, 186,000-sq-ft, Class A, five-story office building with 112,000 sq ft of structured parking. The building was 100% pre-leased before getting its certificate of occupancy. It is located in the Denver West Office Park near Interstate 70.
The award will be presented Oct. 21 at NAIOP’s Development ‘08 conference in Las Vegas.
NAED Joins ConsensusDOCS Alliance of Industry Supporters
The National Association of Electrical Distributors has joined a growing number of associations that support ConsensusDOCS.
Released Sept. 28, 2007, ConsensusDOCS was designed to increase efficiency in contract negotiations and project execution. Written by and for owners, contractors, subcontractors, designers and sureties, ConsensusDOCS includes more than 70 contracts and forms that address all project delivery methods.
NAED joins 21 other trade associations that support ConsensusDOCS, including industry leaders such as the Associated General Contractors of America, Construction Users Roundtable, Construction Owners Association of America and the National Association of State Facilities Administrators.
ASA Establishes Certificate for Excellence in Ethics
In an effort to recognize subcontractors that strive to uphold the highest ethical standards in their business conduct, the American Subcontractors Association has released the criteria for a new ASA Excellence in Ethics Certificate on its Web site, www.asaonline.com.
The program recognizes companies that strive to promote ASA’s values in their businesses every day. Applicants will be judged on criteria in three categories: corporate ethics policy and procedure, construction industry practices and general business practices.
Certificates will be presented to qualifying applicants for the first time at the ASA Business Forum and Convention 2009 in Nashville next March.
Applications are due to the ASA no later than Dec. 12 and will be reviewed by a committee of volunteers and ASA staff.
ASCE Releases Hands-on Guide for Improving Work-Force Diversity
Because U.S. engineering firms face increasing global competition, civil engineers need to hire employees who reflect the diverse perspectives of their international colleagues.
But these firms also need to create the same perspectives in their own increasingly diverse communities and local work forces, according to a new book on diversity published by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
To help firms enhance diversity in their recruiting, ASCE’s Committee on Diversity and Women in Civil Engineering has sponsored a new guidebook called “Diversity by Design: Guide to Fostering Diversity in the Civil Engineering Workforce,” written by Sybil E. Hatch.
It highlights aspects of the current workplace that are not conducive to diversity and provides practical, hands-on suggestions—based on real-life scenarios—for fostering, improving and maintaining a diverse work force.
