RMMI Creates Partnership with Habitat for Humanity/AGC Commends New Ethics Association/ABC Presents Safety Awards

RMMI Teams with Habitat for Humanity

This spring, volunteers from the Rocky Mountain Masonry Institute members companies installed a veneer on a triplex on Thrill Place in Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood as part of the institute’s new partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

Using brick is a new construction concept for Habitat in Denver, so as a pilot project, RMMI Technical Director Diane Travis worked with Denver architect Peter Hynes of Urbitecture to design the veneer on a triplex and a duplex.

Volunteer masons from C. Morgen Masonry and the apprentices from the masonry program at Front Range Community College are using materials donated by Rio Grande Co. and A.P. Eberlein Co. Approximately 10,000 bricks, mortar and other supplies were donated for the triplex project, along with approximately 224 hours of foreman and mason man-hours and 230 labor hours.

Taxi Tenant Earns CBCA Award

The Zeppelin Development commercial and residential project, located in the River North Neighborhood along the Platte River, is once again home to a CBCA winner—ripcord LLC.

The branding and marketing firm ripcord LLC garnered CBCA’s “Workforce” award, recognizing creative investments in employee development and volunteerism for the firm’s creative work with Art Street, a local nonprofit serving underprivileged youth.

In 2006 Taxi won the CBCA’s Workspace Award for the development’s design. In selecting Taxi, the jury noted the creative vision that has guided Zeppelin Development’s transformation of an 18-acre industrial site into a vibrant urban community.

AGC of America Applauds Construction Ethics Association

The Associated General Contractors of America recently announced its support for the Construction Industry Ethics and Compliance Initiative and the 13 construction companies that came together to form the nonprofit for the sole purpose of promoting ethical behavior and full compliance with the law. The CEICI was formed April 25.

The CEICI will focus on construction companies’ best practices for encouraging ethical behavior and ensuring full compliance. Its goals are to identify and spread those practices throughout the construction industry.

While AGC has endorsed the CEICI and explained its goals and objectives to AGC members, the CEICI is independent of AGC or any other trade group, and will govern its own affairs. Its first chairman is William G. Dorey, president and CEO of Granite Construction of Watsonville, Calif., and its interim coordinator is Richard J. Bendar, a Washington lawyer well known for his work for and on behalf of the Defense Industry Initiative.
