New Westin Condo-Hotel/G.A. Wright Topping Out/NARA Facility

Ground will be broken in April on a $140 million condominium hotel in northern California. OZ Architecture is the architect-of-record.

OZ's Plan for Westin Hotel-Condo Moves Ahead

OZ Architecture has won approval for its drawings of the Westin Monache, a $140 million, 230-room hotel-condominium scheduled to open in Mammoth Lakes, Calif. in spring 2007.

Set to break ground this April, the eight-story building will feature expanses of glass and powder-coated steel brackets and railings.

The Monache will be developed by Vancouver, B.C.-based Intrawest Corp., which is investing $1 billion in a Mammoth makeover, including the mixed-use Village at Mammoth, a golf course and 1,500 condos and townhomes.

OZ Architecture is the architect-of-record for the project, producing schematic and construction drawings to designs by Vancouver-based architect Ray Letkeman & Associates and navigating the project through the planning process.


DRG Redevelops Area in Rocky Mountain National Park

J.E. Dunn Construction Rocky Mountain Region, in a joint venture with Jaynes Corp. of New Mexico, broke ground in late fall on the University of New Mexico Children's Hospital and Critical Care Pavilion project in Albuquerque.

The six-story, 500,000-sq-ft building will house a neonatal intensive care unit; children's and adult emergency departments; urgent care and trauma; adult critical care; women's birthing center; postpartum services and a well-baby nursery. Support services will include a pharmacy, gift shop, meditation room, food court and respiratory therapy.

The design team of Design Collaborative Southwest Architects Inc., architect; and Perkins and Will, consulting architect has created a complex suitable for present and future medical technology and major diagnostic and treatment services with an emphasis on contemporary "healing" inpatient environments.


Bleeker & Vigesaa Completes New Ted's

DRG Construction Corp. has finished its latest project with the restoration of Hidden Valley Area at Rocky Mountain National Park, located on U.S. Highway 34 between Deer Ridge Junction and Many Parks Curve.

Work entailed construction of all buildings, including a 2,571-sq-ft facility with bathrooms, a multipurpose room, an office and search-and-rescue cache and a breezeway with interpretive panels.

A parking lot with 122 regular parking spaces and five bus/RV spaces was added, plus a 3,200-ft trail system with 20 associated picnic sites. A wetlands area was also reclaimed and two bridges were built across the river for hiking access.


Nunn Completes Two Projects

Nunn Construction Inc. recently finished the new Red Noland Jaguar Dealership in Colorado Springs, a $3.7 million, two-story, 27,000-sq-ft facility.

The fast-track project was completed ahead of schedule - in eight months - and designed by Bruce W. Barr, AIA. The 7.25-acre hillside location included extensive site work and a 10 ft-overdig.

The owner is Red Noland Auto Group in Colorado Springs.

Nunn also celebrated the completion of Saint Gabriel Catholic Church in January - one month ahead of schedule.

RDG of Omaha, Neb. was the architect for the $2.65 million, 15,000-sq-ft project, which includes a sanctuary, multi-purpose room and an office area. Subcontractors included West Electric, Frontier Mechanical and Tri-Star Masonry.


G.A. Wright HQ Tops Out

In January, G. A. Wright Marketing Inc. topped out its new 73,000-sq-ft building in the Stapleton Business Center. The building - located at 10325 E. 47th Ave. - will open in June. It features an innovative design by Intergroup Architects. Murray & Stafford Inc. is the general contractor.


Aardex, M+O+A Complete New NARA Facility

Aardex Corp. and M+O+A Architectural Partnership completed a collaboration on the new Pacific Region Records Center in Riverside, Calif. for the National Archives and Records Administration.

The Denver-based firms co-designed the tilt-up concrete structure, one of the newest buildings to meet the government's strict 2009 requirements for fire protection, security and environmental controls.

The new 185,000-sq-ft facility features a "smart" security/access control/intrusion detection system and a powerhouse fire protection system designed to substantially limit losses from any single fire, no matter how intense the heat.


Drahota Building Banks in Severance and Mead

Drahota Inc. of Fort Collins will complete construction this month on the First National Bank of Severance, working with Vaught Frye Architects, North Star Design, Windsor and the Birdsall Group.

Work began in November on the bank, located at 399 Fourth St., and owned by First National Bank of Stratton. The $1 million, one-story facility features 4,735 sq ft with a brick veneer.

Drahota is also building the $1.8 million, 9,460-sq-ft Bank of Mead, which includes decorative site improvements such as new town site lighting and a time period clock.

Once it's completed in July, the bank will be the largest building in Mead, setting a standard for future building projects in the area.
