Shaw Breaks Ground on Grand Junction Office/Saddle Rock South Marketplace Completed/Conference Resort Announced for Aurora

To accommodate business growth along the Western Slope, Shaw Construction broke ground this fall on a new office building to house its Grand Junction headquarters. The new 50,000-sq-ft, four-story building is slated for completion next summer.

Shaw Breaks Ground on Grand Junction Office

Shaw Construction broke ground this fall on a new office building to house its Grand Junction headquarters. Located at 760 Horizon Dr. - immediately in front of its existing facilities - the new 50,000-sq-ft, four-story building is slated for completion next summer.

The decision to construct a new building was made to accommodate business growth along the Western Slope. Shaw's annual business volumes along the Western Slope have increased eight-fold over the past 14 years, Shaw Vice President Clark Atkinson said.

Shaw will occupy the second floor of the finished structure, which will feature a stone, brick and copper exterior, 360-degree views and the only Class-A office space in Grand Junction. A second phase of the project will feature an additional 20,000-sq-ft office building where Shaw's existing 3,000-sq-ft headquarters now stands.


Saddle Rock South Marketplace Completed

White Construction Group completed construction in the fall of Saddle Rock South Marketplace Building No. 4, the final structure in the Aurora retail center.

The building is a one-story retail center featuring a four-ft-tall stone veneer at the building's base coupled with a stucco finish. Owner Saddle Rock South Retail LLC awarded the development - designed by SEE Architecture - to White Construction in Dec. 2004.

White Construction Group's project manager was Seth Noble; Josh Reitz was the project superintendent; Jennifer Thompson was project coordinator.


JE Dunn Builds 10th Compass Bank

JE Dunn Construction finished construction of the new Compass Bank at Colfax Ave and Albion in Denver's Park Hill community.

The facility is the 10th bank that JE Dunn has completed in Colorado for Compass Bank over the past three years. Each bank, with approximately 3,500 sq ft, has been constructed from four designed prototypes with a brick-and-stone exterior and metal roofing.


GE Johnson Breaks Ground at Falcon High

GE Johnson Construction Co. broke ground this fall on a new high school for the Falcon School District 49.

The $32 million, 175,000-sq-ft high school includes a full auditorium with stage, music pit, set shop and drama classroom, special education area and classrooms, science lab, career learning lab, cafeteria with commons eating area and media center. The project also features a gymnasium with an auxiliary gym, locker rooms, athletic storage, and weight and wrestling rooms.

LKA Partners designed the school according to the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED principles.

Construction is scheduled for completion next fall.


Bleeker & Vigesaa Completes GCC of America Job

Brighton-based Bleeker & Vigesaa LLC completed construction on a tenant-finish project for GCC of America, a cement manufacturing company that has relocated its U.S. headquarters from El Paso to Denver.

The extensive eight-week project cost an estimated $407,000 and covered two suites on the second floor of the Lowry office building at 130 Rampart Way in Denver. At approximately 8,919 sq ft, the space contains 15 offices, eight cubicles, two large conference rooms, two kitchens and one copy room. The construction also required furnishing the office, which cost nearly $225,000.


Drahota Begins Alpenglow in Steamboat

Drahota has started construction for Alpenglow, a 42,000-sq-ft, mixed-use project located at Lincoln Avenue and 6th Street in downtown Steamboat Springs.

The project consists of three phases - demolition of the existing Nite's Rest motel, construction of a 30,000-sq-ft, mixed-use building and 11,000-sq-ft underground parking structure and construction of a 12,000-sq-ft, high-end townhome building.

Alpenglow - designed by Vaught Frye Architects of Fort Collins - is owned by 601 LLC. Drahota's team will include Dan Brown, project manager; Bo Miller, superintendent; and Cindy Fox, project coordinator.


Colarelli Construction Completes RT Logic

Colarelli Construction completed the three-story, 61,000-sq-ft build-out for RT Logic in northern Colorado Springs. The project was originally scheduled to finish in October but was completed in September.

The architect for the project was Texas-based SG Design, based in conjunction with Bobby Hill Designs in Colorado Springs.

Subcontractors were Associated Building Specialties, ADT Security Services, Berwick Electric, Brick Wall Fire Protection, Cab-Con Enterprises, Douglass Roofing, Elite Stucco & Plaster, High Class Glass & Skylights, Linx, MD Painting, M-Tech Mechanical, OfficeScapes/Floorz, Otis Elevator, Pioneer Sand Co., Shamrock Glass, Sigma Metals, Spacecon, Stresscon, Tab Construction, The Door Co., Timberline Landscaping and Windsor Concrete.


Final Phase of Southlands Opens in Aurora

Main Street, the final phase of development at Southlands in Aurora, opened in October, along with more than 70 new shops and restaurants.

The 301-acre, 1.7 million-sq-ft Southlands - the largest retail destination in Colorado - is located at E-470 and Smoky Hill Road. The project combines elements of a lifestyle and entertainment center, super regional power center and town center.

More than 100 retail, restaurant and entertainment venues are located at Southlands.
Main Street at Southlands combines a movie theater, several locally owned and national retailers and a number of boutiques. At its north end is a one-acre plaza that will host a twice-weekly farmers' market and pop-jet fountain in the summer; in the winter, it will feature "The Pond," Southlands' ice skating rink, and a living Christmas tree.

Construction began in October 2003; Phase I opened in fall 2004. Ground was broken on Main Street last fall.


Neenan Breaks Ground on PVHS Project

The Neenan Co. broke ground in October on the Redstone Professional Office Building in Fort Collins.

The 72,310-sq-ft facility will include the Urology Center, Front Range Cancer Specialists and Poudre Valley Health System's corporate headquarters, as well as the Poudre Valley Hospital Harmony Campus Laboratory, now located in the Ambulatory Care Center.

Located directly east of the existing facility on the PVHS Harmony Campus, the Redstone building has already been built - virtually. The facility is the first Colorado project to use Neenan's new virtual-build process, V-Build. This process allows architects, engineers, contractors and owners to contribute simultaneously to the project's design during a virtual construction process.

Completion is expected early next fall.


MW GOLDEN Completes Juniper Library

MW GOLDEN CONSTRUCTORS completed construction earlier this year of the Juniper Library in Grand Lake.

The $1.5 million project is located in the Town Square, directly adjacent to the Town Hall and the Repertoire Theater. The 4,500-sq-ft facility was designed to blend into its mountain community setting, looking old and new at once.

Significant architectural features include exposed log structure and natural stone and log siding, with bark still on the log. The Juniper Library was designed by Brendle APV (now part of RNL Design), with owner representative services provided to the Grand County Library District by Architectural Resource Consultants.


Conference Resort Announced for Aurora

A 505-room conference resort will be built at High Point in Aurora, an 1,800-acre mixed-use community near Denver International Airport in Aurora.

The $172 million, full-service conference resort will be built on a 20-acre parcel of land in the High Point Corporate Center and include 68,000 sq ft of dedicated meeting and event facilities and other resort amenities, including a 22,000-sq-ft spa and fitness center.

Designed by klipp, the modern stucco, stone and glass structure includes a 12-story guest-room tower oriented so that all the guest rooms and suites will have panoramic views of downtown Denver and the Rocky Mountains. The architecture will reflect the natural plateaus and outcroppings of the high plains environment.

Denver's M.A. Mortenson Co. will build the resort on a turn-key basis. The project is scheduled for completion in September 2008.


Fransen Pittman Completes New Regis Chapel

Fransen Pittman General Contractors completed the new 26,000-sq-ft chapel for Regis University in Denver.

Soderstrom Architects of Portland designed the $5.95 million chapel,which features a 50-ft-high gabled ceiling, a 12-pitch roof, radial ceiling and seven-sided apse and unobstructed views of Colorado's Front Range.

The building is complemented by a 10-ft-by-10-ft bell tower that stands 100 ft tall. To construct it, construction crews used a fork lift and crane to erect 86-ft-high scaffolding for the structural steel, framing, stone veneer and precast work. Three electronically controlled carillon bells were imported from the Netherlands to complete the tower's interior.
