Work Well Under Way on Denver Post Office/Belmar and Central Platte Projects Top Out/Work Begins on a Stapleton's First Office/Retail Condos
Post Office & Parking Garage Work Moving on Schedule
The new Denver Justice Center Parking Garage and Post Office/Retail
Center, the first stage of the City and County of Denver's
new Justice Center Campus, hit the one-quarter complete mark
in November.
Denver's Haselden Construction started work on the $17.5 million
project - designed by AR7 HooverDesmond Architects - in July.
Completion is scheduled for July 2007.
The 241,000-sq-ft structure will feature a concrete cast-in-place,
post-tension structure with precast architectural concrete
skin.
Once the project is finished, work is scheduled to begin on
the $127 million Justice Center courthouse. Originally scheduled
for completion in December 2009, that project was thrown into
the national spotlight earlier this fall when New York-based
Steven Holl Architects left the job, creating a a flurry of
charges and countercharges between Holl's office and Denver
city officials. Denver's klipp is continuing to work on the
courthouse design. A peer review panel was also formed to
help guide the project design.
The site for the justice center jail was vacated earlier this
fall by the Denver Newspaper Agency, and demolition of the
old newspaper building is set for January.
Greeley's Hensel Phelps Construction will build the new jail
and courthouse, which should be finished in December 2009.
Expansion Project Will Bridge Old and New
Construction is under way on a 10,000-sq-ft addition to Calvary
Episcopal Church in Golden that will connect the historic
church, built in 1867, with the campus' Great Hall, built
in 2000. The historic structure is the oldest Episcopal Church
building in Colorado still in continuous use.
Himmelman Construction Inc. and Architectural Workshop have
been working closely to create a building that will enhance
downtown Golden while blending the architecture of different
eras to balance the site.
Nunn Completes $16 Million Fort Carson Middle
School
Nunn Construction Inc. completed the $16 million renovation
and expansion of Fort Carson Middle School in Colorado Springs.
Christiansen, Reece and Partners PC was the architect for
the 130,900-sq-ft project at the Fort Carson Army Base, which
began in March 2005. The expansion was designed to accommodate
the 600-plus students expected to relocate to Fort Carson
from other military installations nationwide.
Prime subcontractors included Frontier Mechanical, West Electric,
Central States Roofing, El Paso Glass, Sidney Millwork, Pioneer
Sand, RM Steel, KCM Masonry and Colorado Fire Protection.
JE Dunn Tops Out Belmar Residences
JE Dunn Construction recently topped out of the 185,023-sq-ft,
five-story Residences at Belmar Plaza in Lakewood in late
November. The $25 million project will include a level of
underground parking, one floor of ground-level retail and
four upper levels consisting of 62 residential units. The
project is scheduled for completion in July.
ONE Riverfront Condos Tops Out
ONE Riverfront Condominiums at Riverfront Park in Denver
topped out in November. The $21.5 million, 127,000-sq-ft development
by East West Partners-Denver, consists of a 43-unit, seven-story,
cast-in-place structure with post-tensioned slabs and seven
street-front, two-story townhomes over a one-story, below-grade
parking garage.
Pinkard Construction is the general contractor for the project,
designed by 4240 Architecture.
Fire Station No. 76 Now Open in Parker
MW GOLDEN CONSTRUCTORS completed construction of the $2 million
Station No. 76 for Parker Fire Protection District. The 10,132-sq-ft
facility - designed by Hans Kahn & Associates Architects
- includes three vehicle bays, living quarters, bunker gear
room, exercise room, training room and day room.
The facility is the latest in a line of projects MW GOLDEN
has completed for Parker Fire Protection District since 1991,
including the remodel of Station No. 71 in 2005.
Work Begins on Stapleton's First Office/Retail Condos
Mark Young Construction Inc. will build the first office/retail
condominium project at the Stapleton redevelopment in Denver:
the three-story-tall Central Park Professional Condos, designed
by Allred & Associates.
Construction began in November on the 44,000-sq-ft building
for RE/MAX City Horizons Group, which will occupy the second
floor. The first floor will feature retail and restaurant
space, and 13,530 sq ft will be available on the third floor
for other uses.
White Construction Under Way on Pioneer Park Phase 2A
Castle Rock-based White Construction Group is working on
Pioneer Park Phase 2A in Commerce City, scheduled for completion
in March.
The $2.2 million project involves the construction of a skate
park, baseball field, scoring booth, concrete flatwork and
site drainage within the 17-acre park. DHM Architecture of
Denver is the architect; the owner is the city of Commerce
City.
Thissen Construction Building New Station No. 3 in Greeley
Thissen Construction Corp. is the general contractor for
the Union Colony Fire/Rescue District's Fire Station No. 3
in Greeley.
The fire station was patterned after and will look similar
to the Frank Lloyd Wright architecture of historic fire stations
in Chicago from the 1920s. Completion is expected in 2007.
It is the third fire station Thissen currently has under construction.
T. Rowe Price Building Going Up in Colorado Springs
JE Dunn Construction is the construction manager/general
contractor for a $35 million, 143,000-sq-ft, Class-A office
building for T. Rowe Price, scheduled for completion next
December.
Designed by OZ Architecture, the four-story office building
in Colorado Springs will be located south of the existing
T. Rowe Price facility on a 10-acre site at Briargate Parkway
and Chapel Hills Drive.
The building will include a raised floor for HVAC and wire
distribution and a 600-seat theater-style meeting room. It
will also support the company's existing facility with a campus-wide
kitchen and cafeteria, fitness center and a three-story, 580-space
parking structure.
Jordy Lands Contract for Aurora Senior Center
Jordy Construction has begun work on a $1.4 million contract
to renovate the Aurora Senior Center.
The project includes the ground-up addition of a new fitness
center and expansion of the existing facility to include offices
for new staff members, remodeling restrooms, upgrading classrooms,
the addition of storage space, and construction of a new entry
and reception counter.
The senior center will remain open during the project, scheduled
to finish in April.
Taylor Kohrs Completes Country Club Village
Taylor Kohrs finished tenant improvement work for three new
tenants at Country Club Village in Westminster.
The work included build-outs of 5,764 sq ft of office, reception,
conference and break-room space for Townsend & Associates;
2,253 sq ft of restaurant, bar and kitchen space for Village
Bistro; and 3,286 sq ft of office, exam room, procedure and
reception space for Nino Pollaccia, DDS.
Country Club Village is a 20-acre property under development
at the northeast corner of 120th and Federal Parkway.
Hyder Begins Work on The Den Restaurant
Hyder Construction began construction this fall on The Den
Restaurant in central Denver.
Designed by Kenney Architects, the eatery will feature traditional
Japanese fare created by Toshi Kizaki, who also owns the adjacent
Sushi Den restaurant.
Nestled in the Old South Pearl Street Business District, the
project is scheduled for completion in late April.
New Anchor Center Now Under Construction
Fransen Pittman General Contractors started construction
on the new 15,620-sq-ft teaching facility for the Anchor Center
for Blind Children. The new multi-sensory teaching facility
is located on a 2.2-acre site in the Stapleton development
area in Denver.
Davis Partnership of Denver, the project architect, designed
special building features that include angled, acoustic walls
to deflect noise, textured wall and walking surfaces and specially
lighted floors.
When completed next fall, the facility will be triple the
size of the Anchor Center for Blind Children's existing facility
on Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Colarelli Begins Construction for the Aerospace Corp.
Colarelli Construction is building a new two-story, 85,000-sq-ft
facility, force-protected SCIF project that will serve as
the local office for The Aerospace Corp, a federally funded
research and development company that supports national security,
civil and commercial space programs.
The architect for the southern Colorado Springs project is
Janitell Childs Design Group. Completion is scheduled for
December.
Haselden Expanding Fitzgerald's Casino
Haselden Construction began work on a two-phase expansion
of Fitzgerald's Casino in Black Hawk.
Located in the middle of downtown Black Hawk, the project
involves two historic structures from the early 1860s that
are among the oldest documented structures built along the
Front Range. Both phases will restore existing front façades
along Gregory Street.
Upon completion of the construction, slated for January 2008,
Fitzgerald's Casino will be seamlessly connected to the existing
Rohling Inn.
ICI Design Group of Minneapolis is the architect.
High Country Courthouses Undergoing Renovation
Andrews & Anderson Architects PC in Golden was awarded
projects in Grand and Routt counties to remodel existing courthouses
designed by the notable Colorado architectural firm of Fuller
& Fuller Architects.
The Grand County project in Hot Sulphur Springs, a joint venture
with Alan B. Carter Architect LLC in Granby, will include
the design of a 24,000-sq-ft justice facility and remodel
of the existing courthouse. The Routt County project in Steamboat
Springs encompasses a design for the remodel, renovation and
restoration of the courthouse and annex.
Work has begun on both projects, with completions anticipated
in fall 2008.
Work Begins on New Ronald McDonald House
A groundbreaking was held this fall for the new 60,000-sq-ft
Ronald McDonald House on the Fitzsimons Medical Campus in
Aurora.
Englewood-based Fransen Pittman General Contractors provided
preconstruction services and construction management for the
project, scheduled for completion in late 2007.
BurkettDesign in Denver is the architect.
Pinkard to Build Holly Creek Phase 2
Construction is under Pon Phase 2 of Holly Creek, a 130-unit
senior living community in Centennial. Pinkard Construction
Co. is the general contractor for the $33.8 million project.
Phase I is adjacent to the recently completed Phase 1, also
built by Pinkard Construction. The architect for both projects
is RNL Design of Denver.
The development, owned by Christian Living Communities, will
include 66 independent living, 24 assisted-living, 12 skilled-nursing,
12 memory-care and 18 concierge units. The project will also
feature a 16,000-sq-ft, below-grade parking structure and
a vaulted, one-story common "gallery" area.
