Golden Community Center Expanded/Weitz Completes REMAX HQ/Ground Broken for Arista Place

The $2.6-million renovation of the Golden Community Center in Golden was designed by Denver’s Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture and built by Pinkard Construction Co.

Golden Community Center Expansion Complete

Denver’s Pinkard Construction Co. finished a $2.6-million renovation and addition to the Golden Community Center.

Designed by Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture, also of Denver, the project included construction of a 4,900-sq-ft fitness center addition, 2,000-sq-ft entry addition, renovations and build-out of the lobby and office, locker rooms, child-watch area and second floor.

The fitness center addition is highlighted by the use of structural steel with brick veneer and an EPDM roof system. The entry addition has steel columns and CMU, with a Glu-Lam roof structure and asphalt shingles.

Building systems include slab-on-grade, spread footers and foundation walls, structural steel joists, girders and deck and metal studs. The exterior masonry features brick veneer while interior finishes include skylights, ceramic tile, architectural cabinets and stained oak trim.


Construction Begins on Mountainside Fitness

Taylor Kohrs has started construction on the new Mountainside Fitness Center at Country Club Village in Westminster.

The project will include site work and construction of a 54,000-sq-ft facility, the Arizona-based company’s first Colorado location. The center will feature 40,000 sq ft of fitness space and 14,000 sq ft of office space on the second floor. Construction will be completed in late 2007.

Construction Complete on RE/MAX HQ in Denver

The Weitz Co. in Denver officially completed construction earlier this year on RE/MAX International’s $65-million headquarters in the Denver Tech Center, the 12th corporate headquarters Weitz has built in the metro area in the past decade.

Despite the challenges of an aggressive 18-month schedule, tight urban site and phased design, the 14-story, 259,000-sq-ft facility and an accompanying parking garage were completed on time and within budget.

Other project partners included Shea Properties Denver Technological Center/Meridian and Barber Architecture, both of Denver.

The elliptical, granite-clad tower rises above a five-level, 850-car precast parking garage and features a three-story lobby with a structural glass wall, stone flooring and escalators. Each office level is designed to provide natural sunlight deep into the building's footprint.

Drahota Begins Work on Rangeview Three

Work got under way this spring in Loveland on Rangeview Three, a 61,000-sq-ft building that will be the first for which owner McWhinney Enterprises will seek LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Rangeview Three will be the second project that Drahota of Fort Collins will build at McWhinney’s Centerra development.

Major consultants on the project include RNL of Denver, architect and mechanical engineer; APS Inc., electrical engineer; TwHartmann Inc., structural engineer; Tait and Associates, civil engineer; and BHA Design Inc., planner and landscape architect.

Rangeview Three is scheduled for completion in the fall.

Ground Broken for $24.2-Million Arista Place

A groundbreaking was held this spring at the site of Arista Place, the “main street” component of the Arista mixed-use development in Broomfield. Developer Wiens Real Estate Ventures also used the event to announce the addition of an Aloft Hotel, which will be located on Arista Place’s west end.

Designed by Denver’s klipp, Arista Place is a three-building retail and office complex that will house ground-level retail and restaurant uses with three to five levels of office space above. Pinkard Construction Co. is the general contractor for the $24.2-million project, which will open in winter/spring 2008.

The 140-room Aloft Hotel is the first in Colorado for Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ newest brand name.

Renovation of Lodge Casino in Black Hawk Completed

MW GOLDEN CONSTRUCTORS completed the south entry renovation and improvement project at the Lodge Casino in Black Hawk.

Work involved upgrading the south entry, off Richman Street, with a revolving door that opens into an expanded, street-level gaming space that now features an additional 60 games and refreshments.

The $1.5-million project was designed by River Studio Architects. Architectural Resource Consultants Inc. in Boulder handled the contract administration. This is the second project that MW GOLDEN CONSTRUCTORS has completed at the Lodge Casino.

Site Work Starts on Riverside Downs

Construction is under way on Riverside Downs at the corner of Santa Fe and Prince Street in Littleton.

Designed by OZ Architecture, the Littleton Capital Partners development will feature four in-line retail buildings anchored by a 30,000-sq-ft 24-Hour Fitness. W.E. O’Neil Construction Co. of Colorado is the general contractor.

Full development of the 10-acre site is expected to finish by the end of summer, with the retail shells completed by year’s end.

Construction Continues on CP Center at Lowry

Construction continues to move forward on Cerebral Palsy of Colorado’s new administrative offices and early learning center, a 61,000-sq-ft facility located within Denver’s Lowry redevelopment, adjacent to the Kelly Dam Open Space.

The facility, which will house administrative offices, an early learning center for infants to preschool age children and a kindergarten through sixth grade charter school, was designed by Pahl Architecture.

Shaw Construction is the general contractor. Other project team members include Monroe & Newell Engineers Inc., structural consultant; JVA, civil engineering; Swanson Rink, mechanical and plumbing; kVA Consulting, electrical; and Norris Design, landscape architect.

White Completes Colorado State Parks Projects

Castle Rock-based White Construction Group has finished a $3-million, three-building contract with Colorado State Parks. Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture in Denver was the architect.

The work included construction of two 1,757-sq-ft camper shower buildings, a recreational vehicle dump station and related site work at Cherry Creek State Park and a 2,067-sq-ft camper services building at Chatfield State Park that was completed last August.

Dcb Begins Working on 27-Acre Industrial Project

Dcb Construction Co. Inc. is building Mountain West Business Park, a 300,000-sq-office and warehouse distribution center at 42nd Avenue and Carson Street in Denver.

Ground was broken on the Mountain West Industrial Properties project in April, with completion expected in 10 months.

The 10-building, single-story, site-cast tilt-up business complex will be marketed to northeast market users for immediate sale and lease.

Taylor Kohrs Takes on Country Club Village Projects

Taylor Kohrs LLC is working on the build-out for the new nine75’s restaurant and a tenant improvement job for a dental practice at Country Club Village in Westminster.

The restaurant project includes construction of the dining room, private dining room, bar and kitchen areas. The eatery, part of The Sullivan Restaurant Group, will be open for business this spring. 

Tenant improvement work for the LaCavalier dental practice includes the completion of 1,542 sq ft of lobby space, office space and exam and procedure areas.

Haselden Working on Silt Elementary, UOW

Haselden Construction was selected to provide construction management and general contractor services for the 61,000-sq-ft Silt Elementary School in the Garfield RE-2 School District.

Demolition and production of the new school are under way at the 21-acre site, where a future middle school is also planned. Van Tilburg, Ban Vard & Soderbergh in Denver is the architect for the $13.6-million project. When it opens in December, the new school will serve 500 pre-K through fourth graders. Features will include commons and stage areas, a gymnasium and soccer fields.

Haselden, in partnership with Pope Construction of Casper, Wyo., is also providing preconstruction services on a $26-million information technology facility at the University of Wyoming at Laramie.

The new 84,000-sq-ft addition will provide users with the required physical infrastructure to support a reliable and secure network, as well as necessary technical support for four departments in the university’s division of information technology.

The building was designed by Anderson Mason Dale Architects in Denver. The project is scheduled for completion in October 2008.

Aberdeen Construction Wins Renovations in Black Hawk, Denver

Aberdeen Construction Inc. in Westminster is working on the food court renovation at the Colorado Central Station casino in Black Hawk. The work replaces the existing food court with a retro-style, sit-down diner and relocates the Quizno’s sandwich shop to the basement.

The $250,000 project, designed by Gensler in Denver, began in April and will finish by the end of this month.

Aberdeen was also awarded a contract from Denver Metal Finishing for the $2-million renovation of its building. The project, which begins this spring, will include updating the 25,000-sq-ft facility with new fire sprinklers, electrical systems and structural modifications.

Work Begins on SI International Offices

Pinkard Construction Co. has broken ground on a new, $9.1-million, two-story office building for owner/developer Corporate Office Properties Trust of Colorado Springs.

The building is being constructed for tenant SI International, which will occupy the entire 62,273-sq-ft structure. It will feature a site-cast concrete skin, structural steel framing for the floor and roof separations and spread footings with center pads. Finishes include natural stone tile, wood-paneled walls and custom ceiling assemblies.

Core-and-shell design was provided by M+O+A Architecture. Gensler  designed the tenant improvement portion of the project, which is expected to be complete in early 2008.

Lofts Mark Firm’s First Foray in Roaring Fork Valley

Clayco of St. Louis has started construction on the Market Street Lofts at Willits Town Center in Basalt—its first project in the Roaring Fork Valley.

Developed by Willits Town Center Partners, the 120,000-sq-ft building will include 42 loft condominiums ranging in size from 1,000 to 2,000 sq ft. The project also includes 40,000 sq ft of ground-floor retail space and underground parking and storage areas.

Basalt’s Lipkin Warner Design and Planning is the architect for the $18-million project, which is scheduled for completion in April 2008. The three-story building will be constructed of steel and concrete with a brick exterior.

In addition to the Market Street Lofts, Clayco also is building out a 2,500-sq-ft marketing suite for Willits Town Center in the Triangle Park Lofts building.

Other project team members include civil engineer Sopris Engineering of Carbondale and structural engineer Lindauer Dunn Inc. of Grand Junction. Subcontractors will include D.L. Adams Associates of Denver, acoustical consultant, and Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates Inc. of Denver, waterproofing consultant.
