The Class-AA, LEED-gold-certified building will officially open in the second quarter of 2008 and is close to 50% leased, according to the developer, Greenwood Plaza-based John Madden Co.
“The successful topping off of Palazzo Verdi is due in large part to the tremendous leadership of Kiewit Construction,” John Madden said. “The entire team has met all of the goals we have set, both in terms of timely delivery and LEED certification.”
The 15-story building is located in the Greenwood Plaza Office Park, near major light rail and transportation routes. It features Class-AA finishes, including a lobby area with a floor modeled after Chartres Labyrinth and a 45-ft chandelier hanging from the five-story ceiling.

Shaw Tops Out Rocky Vista University
Capping an accelerated schedule that relied on strong design-build capabilities from a number of subcontractors, Shaw Construction of Denver topped out at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker.
Located at 8401 S. Chambers Road, the new 150,000-sq-ft facility will include an anatomy laboratory, osteopathic manipulative medicine laboratory, anatomy theater, library, lounge areas, cafeteria and administrative space.
The building is scheduled for completion by August, when the school is slated to welcome its first class of 150 future osteopathic physicians.
Along with Shaw and project designer OZ Architecture of Denver, several firms played significant roles in meeting early milestones: structural steel specialist Puma Steel of Cheyenne, mechanical contractor MTech of Denver and Piper Electric of Arvada.
The new building will also accommodate two future expansions on the 24-acre site.
Hyder Begins Work on Riverwalk Amphitheater
Denver-based Hyder Construction Inc. announced that construction has begun on the Breckenridge Riverwalk Center.
This award-winning amphitheater has been a community center for Breckenridge for more than 15 years, hosting thousands of concerts and events. The $3-million, 11,000-sq-ft renovation will replace the existing fabric tent with a permanent shell structure. The addition of a roof covering and walls will significantly enhance the concert and event experience by improving acoustics, temperature control and lighting. It will also extend the facility’s ability to host performances early and late in the season and make it flexible enough to accommodate winter events.
To sustain the connection the amphitheater has with the outside environment, six large, clear doors will open to the Riverwalk Center lawn. The negotiable CM/GC project is slated for completion in May 2008. Harry Teague Architects of Aspen is the architect.

GE Johnson Completes Rockefeller Preserve
GE Johnson Construction Co. of Colorado Springs recently completed construction on The Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve Center at the base of the Teton Mountain Range, just north of Jackson, Wyo., in Grand Teton National Park.
The LSR Preserve Center, a gift from the Rockefeller family, was designed to give visitors an opportunity to experience nature, as well as tell the story of how the Rockefeller family, working with the National Park Service, donated land to establish Grand Teton National Park and contributed to the American conservation movement.
The design team worked to reduce the environmental impact of the building, save energy and water and design a building that fits within the setting of the Teton mountain range. The 7,500-sq-ft visitor center uses 85% less energy than a conventional building and is heated using ground-source heat pump technology.
The project is anticipating a LEED-platinum certification. The LSR Preserve Center is the only LEED certification project in Wyoming. To date, there are only 51 platinum-certified projects in the United States.
M-E Engineers of Wheat Ridge and Carney Architects of Jackson Hole, Wyo., also worked on the project.
