Sees Development Increase
Tim White, president of White Construction Group, is spearheading the development of the first project in The Meadows at Historic Castle Rock’s Town Center.
This news comes on the heels of four other Town Center development announcements Centura hospital, a professional plaza and two new restaurants which have moved The Meadows to the next level of business and commercial development, White said.
The Meadows announced that it has secured White Construction Group to purchase commercial pads totaling approximately 24,000 sq ft slated for two buildings. The two buildings will incorporate a mixed-use concept in the Town Center, a 290-acre, mixed-use area in The Meadows that will offer as much as 150,000 sq ft of space slated for retail, restaurants, offices and condos to create a work/live environment.

Taxi 2 was recently awarded the DU Real Estate Expo’s “Project of the Year Award,” an honor that closely follows the Mayor’s “Density by Design” award, presented to Taxi 2 in the fall.
Located just north of Coors Field and adjacent to the South Platte River, Taxi has added 60,000 sq ft of flex-office and commercial space and 40,000 sq ft of two-story residential lofts to Denver. Three nationally prominent architects San Francisco’s David Baker, Arizona’s Will Bruder and Aspen’s Harry Teague worked in an unprecedented collaboration with the Zeppelin team to design Taxi. Onsite amenities include Taxi’s Fuel Café featuring locally sourced ingredients and a fitness studio opening in the spring.
Stapleton Medical Office
Building Earns LEED Gold

Denver’s JE Dunn Construction recently announced that the Stapleton Medical Office Building has achieved LEED-gold certification for its sustainable core and shell. Developer Forest City Stapleton initially considered seeking LEED-silver certification when the project started in late 2005.
Construction efforts included diverting construction waste to recycling centers and utilizing materials with at least 20% recycled content. Design features include water-efficient landscaping and low-emitting materials. This project now serves as a model for buildings and building practices for Forest City.
Catamount Completes
Furniture Row Flagship Center
Catamount Constructors Inc., a privately held commercial general contractor with offices in Denver and Atlanta, recently completed a new 93,500-sq-ft facility for Denver-based Furniture Row on North Broadway at I-25 and 58th Avenue.
The flagship center houses Furniture Row’s main retail concepts Sofa Mart, Oak Express, Bedroom Expressions and Denver Mattress. The new flagship center is the sixth facility Catamount has built for Furniture Row.
Headquartered in Denver since 1974, Furniture Row operates more than 330 stores in 31 states. The new Furniture Row Shopping Center on Broadway showcases an interior design created by JGA of Southfield, Mich., one of the nation’s leading retail design and architecture firms.
Brinkmann Begins Work
on Senior Living Community
Brinkmann Constructors of Denver has started construction in Broomfield on a new senior living community for McLean, Va.-based Sunrise Senior Living Inc.
Designed by BeeryRio Architects & Interior Design of Springfield, Va., the two-building complex is rising from a seven-acre site at 400 Summit Blvd. and will host more than 200 residential units in 267,000 sq ft of space.
Slated for completion in spring 2009, the new community will feature independent and assisted living, as well as memory care and a host of services and amenities. Sunrise selected the picturesque Flat Irons location because of its proximity to shopping, restaurants and services for seniors.
Joining Brinkmann on the project are Norris Design of Denver, planner/landscape architect; Martin/Martin Consulting Engineers of Lakewood, civil engineer; Ehlert/Bryan Consulting Structural Engineers of McLean, Va.; and S3E/Klingemann Inc. of Springfield, Va., electrical and mechanical engineer.
Taylor Kohrs Completes
Work at Centennial Corner
Denver general contractor Taylor Kohrs completed two new buildings at Centennial Corner, a retail development at East Arapahoe Road and Lima Street in Centennial.
The buildings total 18,400 sq ft and include masonry, stucco and glass storefronts. As part of the project, Taylor Kohrs also completed extensive site development at Centennial Corner, including bridge construction, overlot grading, curb and gutter, sidewalks, excavation, asphalt paving, installation of sewer and water mains, creek bank protection and a detention pond.
Wyatt & Associates of Denver served as the architect.
Fentress-Designed Project
Breaks Ground in California
Hensel Phelps Construction Co., headquartered in Greeley, broke ground on the University of California Irvine Humanities Gateway, a $29-million, design-build project the company was awarded with Fentress Architects of Denver in a design competition in May.
The 76,000-sq-ft Humanities Gateway will be the fifth building in the Humanities quad and will include such elements as a 110-seat auditorium, film studio, art and art history classrooms, offices and the International Center for Languages and Translation. The building is scheduled for completion in summer 2009.
