Snowmass Golf Clubhouse
Earns LEED Certification/Children's Hospital 'Scoops' Out/Mortenson
to Build St. Anthony North ER Expansion
The new Snowmass Golf Clubhouse
has earned LEED certification, making it the second facility
in the ski industry to attain such accreditation.

The Aspen Skiing Co.'s new Snowmass
Golf Clubhouse was recently awarded silver certification
by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design program.

Aspen Skiing Co. has achieved Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design certification at the silver
level for its new Snowmass Golf Clubhouse in Snowmass Village.
The facility is the second LEED-certified green building
in the ski industry; the Sundeck restaurant on Aspen Mountain
was the first.
The building was designed by Cottle Graybeal and Yaw Architects
- now Cottle Carr Yaw; lead clubhouse architect Doug Graybeal
has his own green design firm - with engineering done by MKK
Engineering and lighting by Clanton Engineering with support
from Rising Sun Enterprises.
The contractor was R.A. Nelson and Associates. Engineering
Economics Inc. was the commissioning agent.
Belmar's New Events Center
Makes Its Debut
The new $3.5 million Belmar Center events complex opened
in April at Belmar, the $750 million mixed-use development
project in Lakewood.
J.E. Dunn Construction Co. was the general contractor for
the project. The design team included Elkus/Manfredi and QPK
Design.
Belmar Center features an 8,500-sq-ft grand ballroom with
floor-to-ceiling windows and the 6,227-sq-ft Plaza Terrace,
which overlooks the Belmar Plaza and mountains.
CTL/Thompson Selected for El Paso County
Judicial Building Expansion
CTL/Thompson has been selected to provide construction materials
testing services for the expansion of the El Paso County Judicial
Building in downtown Colorado Springs.
CTL/T is performing compaction testing, concrete testing,
masonry testing and other services needed by the design and
construction team for the Judicial Building expansion project.
The expansion will include new courthouse space and additional
room for support services.
Construction began last October 2004 and is scheduled for
completion in mid-2006.
Children's Hospital 'Scoops' Out
H+L Architecture teamed up with Dreyers Grand Ice Cream on
April 19 to celebrate the topping out of the new Children's
Hospital, the $509 million facility under construction at
the Fitzsimons campus in Aurora.
Project architects rolled up their sleeves and built more
than 1,100 ice cream sundaes in two hours for hospital employees
and visitors. Each sundae had an architecturally themed name,
such as "Nuts and Bolts with a Cherry on Top," "Berry
Good Blueprints" and "Nutty Architect Goes Bananas."
The new Children's Hospital will include 264 inpatient beds,
diagnostic and surgery facilities, outpatient clinics, medical
staff and administrative offices and support services areas.
Other components include surface and structure parking.
Construction began in June 2004 and is expected to finish
in fall 2007. Gerald H. Phipps/McCarthy Building Companies
is the joint-venture CM/GC team.
DRG Construction Completes DIA's Fourth
Fire Station
DRG Construction Corp. has completed a new fire station at
Denver International Airport.
The facility is a complex structure with three truck bays
and all the comforts of home for the firefighters, including
three bedrooms, three baths, a living room, kitchen and laundry
room.
The project is the fourth such structural and/or aircraft
fire station to be built within DIA's jurisdiction.
White Construction Handling Design-Build
Clinic Addition
White Construction Group broken ground this spring on the
East Morgan County Hospital Clinic building addition, a 10,000-sq-ft,
design-build project valued at $1.6 million and scheduled
for completion in September.
Project partners include the client, East Morgan County Hospital
in Brush, and the architect, Klump Brinkley Architecture in
Golden.
Hyder Construction Nearly Finished with
Downtown Office Project
Hyder Construction Inc. was in the final stages in April
of construction for 235,000 sq ft of office space in the 633
17th St. Building in Denver.
When complete, the 14-floor project will house the new state
offices for the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment
and Department of Personnel Administration. It is the second
CDLE-related project for Hyder, having recently completed
a 40,000-sq-ft addition to the department's offices at 251
Sherman Street.
Hyder worked with IA Interior Architects
on both spaces.
Drahota Finishes
First National Bank of Severance
Drahota Inc. has completed finished construction of the First
National Bank of Severance, located at 399 Fourth St., Severance.
Owned by First National Bank of Stratton, the $1 million,
4,735-sq-ft project was completed within a five-month schedule.
It opened on March 31 and is one of two First National Bank
of Stratton locations scheduled to be built by Drahota in
Northern Colorado this year.
Vaught Frye Architects, North Star Design and the Birdsall
Group provided the design services for the one-story, brick
veneer building. Everitt Commercial Partners served as the
owner's representative during the construction of the bank.
Foley's Joins Orchard Town Center in Westminster
Foley's has reached final agreement with Forest City California
to create a 140,000-sq-ft, two-level store at The Orchard
Town Center, the main street-style shopping village to be
built along the north I-25 corridor in Westminster.
The Foley's store, scheduled to open in fall 2008, will be
specifically designed to respond to the growth of suburban
off-mall "lifestyle" centers and the customer's
desire for more convenient shopping.
The store has also announced that it will be joining Phase
II of Forest City's NorthField at Stapleton lifestyle center,
scheduled to open in 2006. Phase I is opening this fall.
Sky Ridge Opens Dedicated Spine and Orthotics
Floor
After just 18 months of operation, Sky Ridge Medical Center
has completed its first expansion by opening a dedicated spine
and orthopedics floor, bringing the total number of licensed
beds to 138.
Sky Ridge, which opened with 106 beds in August 2003, was
developed with two shelled floors, each with capacity for
30 additional beds.
In addition to completion of the fourth floor, the hospital
has begun construction on an 18-bed intensive care unit expansion;
the hospital currently has 11 beds.
Drahota Building Working on Two Projects
in Steamboat Springs
Drahota Inc. has begun construction of the Haymaker Golf
Course's new $2.7 million clubhouse in Steamboat Springs.
The club house - designed by Zmistowski Design Group LLC
in Boulder - will feature nearly 15,000 sq ft and be located
near the north side of the Haymaker Golf Course. It's scheduled
for completion in the spring 2006.
Drahota has also been awarded the $2 million Loggers Lane
construction project on the north side of Steamboat Springs
near Highway 40 and Elk. Construction of the 24,000-sq-ft
commercial-use building - owned by Loggers Lane Commercial
Center LLC and designed by Jakes Drafting Services in Steamboat
Springs - will begin May 1, 2005 and is scheduled for completion
by the fall.
Swinerton to Renovate The Little Nell Hotel
Mechanical Systems
Swinerton Builders and Southland Industries have been selected
to provide mechanical system renovation services for The Little
Nell Hotel in Aspen.
The project involves structural improvements at the roof
for a new cooling tower, as well as select demolition and
restoration to accommodate the new fan coils and distribution
piping "invisibly."
The $2 million renovation will be constructed in two phases.
Phase 1 will consist of the central plant upgrades, distribution
piping and 4th floor fan coils. Phase 2 will consist of replacing
the second- and third-floor fan coils.
Phase 1 began in April and was scheduled to finish in late
May. Phase 2 will begin mid-April 2006 and finish in late
May 2006.
Mortenson to Build St. Anthony North Emergency
Room Expansion
M. A. Mortenson Co. has been awarded the contract to build
the new $6 million St. Anthony North emergency room expansion
in Westminster.
The company will complete a 14,000-sq-ft addition that includes
27 exam treatment rooms, plus a an 8,000-sq-ft remodel to
the emergency department.
Construction began in April and is scheduled to finish in
July. The architect is HKS Architects.
White Will Build Douglas County Evidence
Technology Facility Project
White Construction Group has been awarded the Douglas County
Evidence Technology Facility project located on the southwest
corner of U.S. Highway 85 and Meadows Parkway in Castle Rock.
The 21,000-sq-ft project involves the construction of a one-story
metal building on the north end, connecting to a two-story
concrete masonry unit building on the south end.
The project - valued at $2.36 million - is scheduled for
completion in December.
Douglas County Public Works is the client. The architect
is Castle Rock's DLH Architecture.
Wiens Announces Arista TOD for Broomfield
Wiens Real Estate Ventures has announced plans to build Arista,
a 200-acre, mixed-use, transit-oriented development located
along Highway 36 in Broomfield.
The company also named its development, design, marketing
and construction team members for the project. They are Lowe
Enterprises, development manager; klipp, project architect;
Norris Dullea, landscape architect; Martin/Martin, civil engineer;
Taylor Kohrs, general contractor for Arista's infrastructure;
and Trammell Crow Co., retail marketer.
The project will be predominantly urban in nature, complete
with a neo-traditional "main street" called Arista
Place. Retail shops will line the wide sidewalks of the village
core, with residences or offices above them.
BVH and White Partnering on Renaissance
Academy
Bahr Vermeer Haecker Architects of Colorado Springs will
serve as the land planners and designers for the new 22-acre
campus and educational facility for The Renaissance Academy,
a private school for gifted children.
White Construction Group is providing design-build services
for the project, under construction on the former Hole in
the Wall Ranch in Mountain Shadows in northwest Colorado Springs.
The 14,000-sq-ft facility features a central commons with
a fountain at the crossing, tinted concrete floors and classrooms
that open to the outdoors with large, glass roll-up doors.
The exterior is designed with forms and colors that distinguish
the individual class divisions so that the children can identify
their part of the building.
The campus will also include an environmental sciences education
park and earth sciences education area available to all schools
in the city.
