Construction Begins on Arvada Library/CSU Chemistry Building Finishes/Whitetail Park Opens in Lafayette

M.A. Mortenson has begun construction on the new $9.9 million public library near Olde Town Square in Arvada., designed by Brendle APV of Denver.

New Arvada Library Breaks Ground

Ground was broken in mid-June on a new $9.9 million, 30,000-plus-sq-ft public library, to be built next to Olde Town Square on West 57th Avenue between Wadsworth Boulevard and Webster Street in Arvada.

The project is being built through a partnership among Jefferson County Public Library, the city of Arvada, Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners and the Arvada Urban Renewal Authority.

The new library will have two stories of public-use space and a staff work area in the basement. Other components include a large community meeting room, drive-up book drop, study rooms, wireless Internet access, approximately 120 parking spaces and computers for use by library patrons.

The architect is Brendle APV of Denver. The general contractor is M.A. Mortenson.


Gold Peak Completing Final Phase of Palomino Park

The final phase of Palomino Park in Highlands Ranch is now under construction.

A joint effort by developer Wellsford Real Properties Inc. and architect Harrington Architectural Partnership, Gold Peak is the first of its kind in the Denver metropolitan area. The $55 million project on 29 acres incorporates a mixture of ranch, townhome, flat and carriage house plans within each of the 39 buildings.

Gold Peak will culminate the decade-long build-out of Palomino Park, a resort-style multifamily community with five distinct villages surrounding a 30-acre park. The neighborhood will incorporate 259 two- and three-bedroom townhomes and condominiums, ranging from 1,100 to 2,400 sq ft, initially priced between $189,000 and $365,000.

Construction is scheduled to finish in late 2006.


Monument Sign Project Completed

MW GOLDEN CONSTRUCTORS completed an entry sign for the town of Monument, located at Exit 161 off Interstate 25 at the corner of Highway 105 and Second Street.

The $67,000, 15-ft-tall, cast-in-place concrete sign features Rhyolite stone from a local quarry with applied and etched lettering and surrounded by trees, flowers and shrubs.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony by the town of Monument was held on May 31.


North Metro Fire District Facility Finished in Broomfield

A new fire station was recently completed in Broomfield in an area that will see the construction of more than 3,100 houses in the next year.

The station consists of a full-service kitchen, dining hall, built-in patio gas grill, basement gym and individual sleeping rooms with built-in desks, cable access and closets. Eidos Architects LLC was the architect for the new North Metro Fire Station, built by Fransen Pittman General Contractors and Riviera Electric.


Infinity Introduces Sky Terrace, Moda to Stapleton

Infinity Home Collection will introduce the contemporary Moda lofts and Sky Terrace townhomes to the East 29th Avenue Town Center at Stapleton this summer.

Infinity will launch Moda - 64 loft residences from 840 to 1,250 sq ft - facing Founders' Green in the Town Center. The four-story Moda will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, balconies, 9.5-ft ceilings and underground parking. Starting from under $300,000, choices will include one-bedroom, one-bedroom-plus-den and two-bedroom units. Ground-floor residences will feature patios and courtyards.

Moda was designed by OZ Architecture.

The Sky Terrace townhomes were inspired by contemporary designs in cities like Vancouver and San Francisco. The first 24 homes will range from 1,900 to 2,200 sq ft. Infinity will begin construction of the models this summer.

Sky Terrace was designed by the Michael Woodley Architectural Group of Denver and California.


CSU's Newest Building Debuts

Construction was completed earlier this summer on the new 13,000-sq-ft, $2.5 million Atmospheric Chemistry Building at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

The new structural steel building has research and teaching labs, along with offices for faculty, research staff and graduate students. The Atmospheric Chemistry Building was designed to give CSU's growing program a state-of-the-art space for studying pollution and air quality.

Ken Paul in the CSU facilities management department was the architect-of-record for the project. Pinkard Construction Co. was the general contractor.


Krische Starts $2.6M Project for St. Vrain Valley Schools

Krische Construction has begun work for the St. Vrain Valley School District on $2.6 million in building improvements at the Career Development Center in Longmont.

Improvements include upgrades and renovations to the rooftop heating and air conditioning units, fire alarm system, boilers and heating/piping materials. Modifications will be made to the chiller and chilled water piping and a new boiler room will be added, complete with a chiller enclosure.

A complete Direct Digital Control, which accurately controls building HVAC systems, will be installed and the electrical service and switchgear will be upgraded.

The work is set for completion this month.

Krische was also selected by Denver Public Schools to complete roofing improvements and finish upgrades at three DPS campuses, including Beach Court Elementary, Del Pueblo Elementary and Smedley Elementary.

Building upgrades began in May and are scheduled for completion in August. The projects are valued at more than $940,000.


Haselden Begins Remodel of West Middle School

Haselden Construction is working on the Aurora Public Schools' West Middle School while its students are on summer vacation.

Haselden is remodeling 75,000 sq ft of the existing middle school building, as well as building a 54,000-sq-ft addition to house classrooms and a new library. Work will be completed in three phases over the next 18 months, scheduled around students' return to classes this fall.

The first phase will include demolition of the current gymnasium and a small wing of classrooms to make room for the new addition. Once construction of the addition is completed, some students will be moved into the new classrooms, as well as temporary buildings so that renovations can begin on the school.

The renovations will take place throughout the school year and into next summer.


Construction Under Way on SI International's Campus

Construction is under way on SI International's new campus at the Newport Tech Center in Colorado Springs.

Lauth Property Group of Denver is the developer and contractor for the campus and M+O+A Architectural Partnership, also of Denver, is the core/shell architect for the two buildings, with design options available for future buildings.

A 92,400-sq-ft, three-story office building will contain office, classified operations areas and conference space; a 30,800-sq-ft, one-story special services building will contain office, integration and training space.

M+O+A principal Jere Eggleston, AIA, is the project manager and Jack Mousseau, AIA, is the design principal for the project.


KB Home to Build Village at Centennial

KB Home has announced plans to build a new community adjacent to the Denver Tech Center.

Located north of Arapahoe Road and Potomac Street in Centennial, the Village at Centennial will offer paired homes and townhomes with "urban exteriors." The homes will feature brick and stucco, metal canopies and tubular steel guardrails.

Village at Centennial will be developed on 24 acres three miles east of Interstate 25 and four miles north of E-470 in Arapahoe County.

The community will offer 14 floor plans ranging from 1,364 to 1,739 sq ft. The 252 homes will come standard with garages, two to four bedrooms and up to three bathrooms. It's designed to be reminiscent of America's quaint, older neighborhoods with alley-loaded garages and tree-lined streets.

Home features will include knockdown textured ceilings and walls, designer-selected interior lighting, large walk-in master closets, energy-efficient materials, including insulation and windows and a 10-year KB Home limited warranty.


Construction Finished on $1.1M Hess 2 Well Facility in Parker

MW GOLDEN CONSTRUCTORS has completed the Hess 2 Well Facility in Parker, the third pump station in the general vicinity of the Rueter Hess Dam.

The new, $1.1 million facility includes three 800-gpm pumps that pump from a wet well containing 35,000 gals. of water. Water is then processed, chlorinated and put into the potable water system for Parker Water & Sanitation District.

Water is currently drawn from the Arapahoe aquifer, with two more wells planned in the future, one to draw from the Denver aquifer and one from the Dawson aquifer.

Integra Engineering provided design services and the construction management services for Parker Water & Sanitation District were provided by Weaver General Construction.


CFC Construction Finishes New Luxury Complex in Arvada

CFC Construction Inc. has completed the Westward Look Apartment complex in Arvada, the city's first new luxury apartment community in 17 years.

The $16 million project consists of 264 units throughout 11 buildings situated on a 15-acre site. Four unit types are available, all of which include high-end finishes, kitchen islands, fireplaces, microwaves and full-size washers and dryers. Amenities include a clubhouse, business center, state-of-the art workout facility, a heated junior-Olympic-size swimming pool, hot tub and 304 garages.

Owned by Milestone Partners LLC, Westward Look was designed by Kephart & Associates.


Construction Under Way on New Jefferson County Building

The design-build team of Haselden Construction and RNL Design have begun construction on the new Jefferson County Workforce Development Facility in Golden.

Located on the Jefferson County Government campus, the two-story, 133,000-sq-ft facility will provide additional office space for Workforce Development, a statewide business and career development network serving Jefferson, Clear Creek and Gilpin counties.

The building will be situated on a site next to a 20-ft high by 200-ft-long rock face.


Lafayette Dedicates Whitetail Park

Lafayette's new Whitetail Park in the South Pointe neighborhood - the creation of Design Concepts - was dedicated in late June.

The 12-acre, $2 million facility was designed around the theme of traveling through the prairie over time, with research linking the area to historic travel and wildlife corridors. Visitors enter the park through a 100-ft-wide maze of paths and inscribed stone markers that suggest traveling by foot, stagecoach and railroad to places such as Denver, Laramie and Cheyenne.


University of Northern Colorado Recreation Projects Ready to Roll

The Fort Collins office of Beaudin Ganze Consulting Engineers Inc., in conjunction with the architectural firm of Davis Partnership, has been selected for the University of Northern Colorado Campus Recreation Center and Athletics Facilities improvement projects.

The projects include a 15,000-sq-ft gymnasium and support spaces addition to the Campus Recreation Center; Butler-Hancock field improvements; Butler-Hancock gymnasium improvements, including a new scoreboard and sound system; Jackson Sports Complex improvements; and new amenities for Nottingham Field, including concessions, restrooms and a team building.

The construction cost is an estimated $12.1 million, with total project funding of $15.75 million.

The work is scheduled for completions by August 2007.


The Weitz Co. Building New Base Village at Snowmass

The Weitz Co. has been selected by the Intrawest Placemaking as general contractor for the Snowmass Base Village development located in Snowmass Village.

Construction began this spring with a parking garage, condo units, skier services and road and infrastructure improvements. In addition, a children's center designed for the residents of Snowmass broke ground in May.

Phase I of the project is expected to last two years, with the entire redevelopment slated to last until 2011.

The new skier services buildings will be LEED certified and all existing wetlands will be protected during construction phases.


Direct 4 Media Chooses dcb Construction to Build Headquarters

dcb Construction Co. Inc. was recently selected to build Direct 4 Media's new 8,000-sq-ft corporate headquarters in Centennial.

Construction on the design-build masonry project began in July and is expected to finish in November.
