1001 17th St. Renovations Complete/Boulder Arts School Gets New Addition/Adams County Fire Station Opens

30-Year-Old Denver Office Completes Energy-Efficient Transformation

Denver’s 1001 17th St. was transformed from an aging high-rise into an energy-efficient, Class A office building with an outdoor plaza and a glass-enclosed, “jewel box,” connecting visitors with outside views of downtown.

The 40,000-sq-ft lobby and retail podium leads visitors into the renovated, multi-tenant office/retail tower. The Weitz Co.’s Denver offices completed the project on time and on budget.

Earlier this year, the building team was honored with the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties Colorado Chapter’s 2008 Development of the Year Award.

A&P Completes Manhattan Middle School of Arts & Academics

In April, Aurora-based Adolfson & Peterson Construction completed construction of an addition and renovation to Boulder Valley School District’s Manhattan Middle School of Arts & Academics.

A&P completed the school renovations and additions in record time, almost four months sooner than originally projected. The addition includes science classrooms, a music area and administrative offices. Renovations were made to the cafeteria, auditorium and locker rooms.

South Adams County Fire Station No.7 Complete

Construction has completed on the 4,824-sq-ft South Adams County Fire Station No.7.

The structure has two back-in bays, five dormitories, a kitchen, living quarters, exercise room, offices and a vestibule museum.

Station No.7 is designed in a vernacular style that recalls the western heritage of Colorado and the traditions of firefighters of the past. The vestibule serves the dual purpose of landmark for the surrounding community and the home of the iconic firemen’s pole.

This iconic station was constructed under budget and completed ahead of schedule. Anderson Construction served as the general contractor and Urbitecture as the architect.

McCauley Breaks Ground on New FedEx Facility

McCauley Constructors Inc. of Windsor is building its third FedEx Sorting and Shipping Facility. The project broke ground this spring in Grand Junction. McCauley did preconstruction services, schedule performance and cost savings on two previous FedEx Facilities along the Front Range.

The $3-million, 25,000-sq-ft, fast-track FedEx Express Package Handling Facility will replace the current facility in Grand Junction and house a complete packaging center, offices and customer pick-up center for the Western Slope.

Pedestrian Crossing Construction to Close CU-Boulder’s Regent Drive

The University of Colorado at Boulder has begun construction on the $3.4-million Regent Crossing, an underpass project that will smooth the flow of traffic through campus for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Regent Drive will be elevated over the intersection at Fiske Planetarium, and a 24-ft-wide pedestrian underpass will be built at grade to ferry pedestrians and bicycles safely across the street. The underpass will connect the plaza at Fiske and the new plaza at the Center for Community, to be built on the north side of Regent Drive.

The architect is Tsiouvaras Simmons Holderness Inc. of Greenwood Village and the contractor is Goodland Construction of Golden.
