CSU Student-Approved Rec Center Breaks Ground/17th & Larimer Remodel Complete/UPI Under Way With New HQ

CSU Starts Construction on Rec Center Renovation

Construction on the $32-million upgrade and expansion of the 20-year-old Student Recreation Center at Colorado State University in Fort Collins began in May. The project is being funded entirely by student fees.

The project will be completed in phases. The first phase is scheduled to be complete in January 2010 and includes a new entrance, lobby, climbing wall, meeting rooms, massage rooms and court space. The second and third phases of construction are scheduled to be complete by August 2010.

The new construction will add 60,000 sq ft, bringing the total facility to 165,000 sq ft.


Construction Under Way on New Douglas County School

Golden Triangle Construction of Longmont recently started construction on a new prototype elementary school for the Douglas County School District. Elementary School #47 will provide capacity relief for other area schools. It is being funded by a 2006 Douglas County bond issue.

Designed by RB+B Architects of Fort Collins and Hutton Architecture Studio of Denver, the new elementary school will be approximately 73,000 sq ft on a 12-acre site located in Castle Rock’s Castle Oaks Division.

As a prototype school, the building’s design is the same as several of the previously built elementary schools in the district, with minor improvements. The project will also include nearly 100 parking spaces, playground areas and baseball and soccer fields.

Construction on Elementary School #47 started in mid-April and is expected to be complete by June 2010, in time for the start of the 2010-11 school year.


17th & Larimer Exterior Remodel Complete

JE Dunn Construction recently completed an exterior remodeling project at 17th & Larimer, formerly called the Larimer Corporate Plaza.

The $6.2-million project included the replacement and reconstruction of the existing façade with new porcelain tile and a curtain-wall window system. The second floor-parking garage was covered with new aluminum grating panels while metal wall panels were installed on the remaining upper floors. The main entrance was remodeled with a curtain-wall featuring an acrylic glow wall panel. The project was completed within a six-month schedule.

JE Dunn worked closely with Nichols Partnership, Centennial Realty Advisors and the project.


University Physicians Inc. Building New Fitzsimons HQ

Construction is under way at the Colorado Science + Technology Park as University Physicians Inc. prepares to relocate to its new home across from the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.

Opus Northwest is building the 195,000-sq-ft building, which was co-developed by Opus Northwest and Trammell Crow. MOA Architecture of Denver serves as the architect and Opus as the general contractor.

The six-story, multi-tenant building, which will seek LEED Silver certification, will serve as the corporate headquarters for UPI, a full-service management organization dedicated to providing business operations and administrative support to more than 1,200 University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine providers.

The building is located on the corner of East Montview Boulevard and Victor Street on the former Fitzsimons campus. A four-story, 645-stall parking garage will serve the building’s occupants.

Construction is scheduled for completion by August 2010.
