The $53-million project encompassed a 128,351-sq-ft patient tower addition; 20,000 sq ft of remodel; and a 205,000-sq-ft, four-level parking structure that accommodates 539 spaces.
The tower is home to the hospital’s new Cardiac Center of Excellence and an expanded intensive care unit. The building includes a four-level nursing component totaling 72 medical/surgical beds and 12 ICU beds, with approximately 40% of the space shelled for future expansion.
The scope also included the construction of a new surface parking lot, pedestrian plaza, central plant expansion and new front entrance. The Medical Center of Aurora is part of the HealthOne System of Excellence.
Multifamily Housing Complex Breaks Ground in Lafayette
Fort Collins-based Drahota and Milestone Development Group of Denver broke ground in July on a 254-unit, luxury apartment project on South Public Road in Lafayette, one mile north of Northwest Parkway and adjacent to Good Samaritan Hospital.
The complex, called Prana, sits on a 14-acre parcel of land, and will feature a 5,400-sq-ft clubhouse with a seven-lane heated pool, spa, a dog wash and a professionally equipped 24/7-exercise facility. Boulder County Open Space and a new all-season park with numerous hiking trails and bike lanes integrated into Boulder County’s extensive trail system border the property.
The project team includes Kephart Community Planning Architecture of Denver, Jehn Engineering, of Arvada and The Henry Design Group of Denver. The $30-million project will be available for move-in by March.
Renovation of JBS Building in Greeley Completed
The 10-month renovation of the JBS corporate headquarters at 1770 Promontory Circle in Greeley was recently completed. The project involved installing a new roof, exterior facade, storefront glazing and windows.
The 135,000-sq-ft building sustained a direct hit from a tornado on May 22, 2008. The winds and debris destroyed the roof, broke windows and severely damaged the exterior façade. Damage to the facility exceeded $2 million.
Because of the nature of the reconstruction work, the project team, led by general contractor Drahota of Fort Collins, worked off hours, evenings and weekends to minimize disruptions to building occupants.
The project team included McWhinney, Drahota and All Phase Restoration.

The Holiday Inn Express is part of a two-building contract constructed for Weins Capital Management. A full-service Holiday Inn, also on Tower Road, is scheduled for completion later this summer.

Fort Collins-based Drahota has begun construction on Poudre Fire Authority’s Station No.4, located at 1945 W. Drake Rd. in Fort Collins. The goal is for the station to be LEED Gold certified, with completion by the end of the year.
The 12,800-sq-ft building, located near Spring Creek, has four fire engine bays, living quarters, sleeping quarters, offices, an exercise area and a 2,580-sq-ft walkout basement for a training/conference room and additional offices. When complete, the new facility will be large enough to accommodate two fire companies.
