Sundance Professional Centre Earns LEED Gold/Alameda

High School Addition Breaks Ground/First LEED-Certified Resort Designed by a Colorado Firm

Sundance Professional Centre Earns LEED Gold

Sundance Professional Centre in Loveland recently earned LEED-gold certification. The two-story, 20,000-sq-ft building, owned by Sundance Professional Centre LLC, is the first medical office building in Northern Colorado to earn the certification.

It is designed to use 20% less energy than a building built to the energy code. High-performance glazing, daylighting, lighting controls and increased R-values in the roof and walls contribute to its superior energy performance. Photovoltaic panels located on the building’s exterior trellis also contribute to energy savings and are the first example of on-the-grid photovoltaic power for a commercial building within Loveland.

More than 75% of the spaces within Sundance are designed for ample daylight and at least 90% of the spaces have views to the outdoors.

The Sundance project team includes Architecture West, Drahota, Beaudin Ganze Consulting Engineers, SunJuice Solar and the Institute for the Built Environment.

Lincoln Terrace Tops Off

Taylor Kohrs of Denver recently topped off Lincoln Terrace, an affordable housing and retail development at 6th and Lincoln in Denver.

The company hosted a special event on behalf of the owners, Century Real Estate and PacifiCap, joined by OZ Architecture of Denver, the project architect; Coldwell Banker Commercial, the retail leasing firm; the construction team and dozen of professionals from the local real estate industry.

Lincoln Terrace is a seven-story building with 75 affordable residential units and ground-floor retail. The residences will be one- and two-bedroom units, ranging in size from 740 sq ft up to 1,100 sq ft. Occupancy is scheduled for this fall.

JeffCo District Breaks Ground for Alameda High School Addition

Jefferson County Public Schools recently broke ground on Alameda High School’s new addition. The $10-million project will include a new two-story building as part of the first phase of a two-phase project. The addition, being built to the east of the existing building toward Wadsworth Avenue, will house approximately 45,000 sq ft of academic programs.

The first floor of the addition will include a large academic lecture and seminar space, a computer lab, special education rooms, a new family and consumer studies suite and technical and support spaces. The second floor will include eight new science classrooms/laboratories and teacher preparation areas. This second-floor science wing will replace the existing science classrooms in the current building.

All areas within the new addition will conform to the latest Jefferson County School District educational specifications, which include high-tech infrastructure, modern science laboratories, high energy efficiency, high lighting levels, current technologies for security, daylighting in the classrooms, high-tech computer access and interactive smart boards. In addition, athletic and P.E. locker room renovations will improve usage of the current gym.

Krische Construction of Denver is the general contractor. Christiansen, Reece & Partners is the architect. The project started this spring and will be completed by summer 2009.

GE Johnson Under Way at Adams County Justice Center

GE Johnson Construction of Colorado Springs and Denver has started construction on the $25-million Adams County Justice Center Phase II Addition in Brighton.

The project consists of a six-story addition of approximately 100,000 sq ft. It will be attached to the south end of the existing courthouse. The expected completion date is October 2009.

The architect is Heery-HLM Design.

Nunn Construction Celebrates Completion of Widefield Transportation Facility

Nunn Construction Inc. of Colorado Springs recently celebrated the ribbon cutting for the new Transportation Facility for Widefield School District No. 3.

The 18,000-sq-ft facility, designed by LKA Partners Inc. of Colorado Springs, houses an 11,000-sq-ft, full-service bus maintenance garage on a 5.4-acre site. The building includes administrative offices, training facilities, a fully equipped kitchen and lounge area. High ceilings and clerestory windows provide natural lighting. The site includes 3.3 acres of asphalt parking for 80 busses as well as parking for staff and visitors.

Himmelman Completes New Building for Vail Christian High School

Himmelman Construction of Lakewood is completing the final phase of Vail Christian High School in Edwards. The $6.3-million project will soon open its doors to students.

Himmelman Construction worked closely with the architect, Davis Partnership of Denver, to complete the 61,239-sq-ft project in two phases. The first phase included classrooms and administrative offices while the second phase consisted of a gymnasium and a fine arts facility.

The building was designed to complement its mountain setting. Completing construction in the high country during winter is always challenging; however, the Himmelman team finished this project on time and within budget.

OZ Architecture Designs First LEED-Certified Resort

Travelers will be seeing green this year at Lake Tahoe’s Village at Northstar, which garnered the designation of the first resort village ever to achieve LEED certification for its environmentally friendly design and construction.

LEED certification was achieved for all three phases of the village, totaling 600,000 sq ft of mixed-use space. The buildings are situated so that natural daylight is present throughout the majority of the interior residential space. Additionally, more than half of the construction waste is diverted to specialized recycling centers—which keep tons of debris from going to landfills.

Other green building features include 100% use of underground parking, utilization of materials manufactured locally in 25% of the project and the development of bus transit systems in the community.

The Village at Northstar is the first phase of sweeping improvements to the 8,000-acre ski area. The GC is Denver’s GE Johnson Construction Co.

District Breaks Ground for Creighton Middle School Addition

Jefferson County Public Schools broke ground this spring for Creighton Middle School’s new addition.

The $6-million project completes the final phase of construction to replace the original 1962 school building. The addition consists of administration, special education, music, auditoria, food preparation and career and technical education spaces.

The project is being funded from bonds approved by voters in 2004.

JE Dunn Breaks Ground on Cripple Creek School

JE Dunn Construction, a commercial general contractor with offices in Colorado Springs and Denver, recently broke ground on a renovation of Cripple Creek-Victor High School.

The project will include an 18,000-sq-ft addition to the school and 45,000 sq ft of renovations.

The project is part of a bond issue approved in November. Designed by LKA Partners, the scope of the renovation will include new mechanical and electrical systems while the addition to the north side of the building features a new kitchen, stage, common area and lockers.

The $9-million project is scheduled for completion in March 2009.
