'See Forever Village' Going Up in Telluride
The Weitz Co. is building the $33 million See Forever Village
next to The Peaks Resort and Golden Door Spa in Telluride.
See Forever will sit on top of a 10,000-ft ridge line overlooking
Telluride with views of the San Sophia and Wilson mountain
ranges. The 133,000-sq-ft project will include two condominium
buildings, four log cabins and a heated underground parking
structure. It was designed by O'Bryan Partnership Architects
for Abrams Development Group Inc. and is financed by Capital
Resource Group LLC. Construction will begins this month.
Ken O'Bryan, lead architect of the project, said this is the
last project in the master plan for developing the northern
area of Telluride. The condominiums will feature floor-to-ceiling
glass walls, arched ceilings and private elevators for direct
access into each unit.
UNCC Moves Into New Facility in Golden
The Utility Notification Center of Colorado has moved into
its newly built facility at 16361 Table Mountain Parkway in
Golden. UNCC is the state messaging center for all excavation
locate requests.
The 12,000-sq-ft facility houses a statewide operation of
60 in-house professionals as well as supporting numerous remote
personnel. The building also incorporates redundant systems
for communications and data, ensuring fast responses to utility
outages and eliminating potential system down times. The state-of-the-art
facility is located in the Coors Technology Center and is
the first one to be owned by UNCC since it began operations
in 1987.
Before digging or starting any job where earth is moved, a
call must be placed to the Utility Notification Center of
Colorado at 1-800-922-1987. The call is free and can be made
Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The call should
be placed three days in advance of the proposed excavation.
OZ Designs Lake Tahoe Project
The Village at Northstar at Lake Tahoe, Calif., celebrated
a January grand unveiling at a special event in San Francisco.
Some 100 units of luxury ski-in ski-out condominiums in three
buildings - valued at $130 million - will be available for
occupancy for the 2005-06 ski season.
Designed by OZ Architecture, the new buildings include Iron
Horse North and South and Great Bear Lodge. The lodges blend
condominiums, retail, a members-only club lounge and underground
parking.
OZ and East West are applying for LEEDTM certification of
the project from the U.S. Green Building Council. The new
buildings at The Village at Northstar could become the first
resort village to receive certification.
The Village at Northstar is being developed by East West Partners
and Booth Creek Ski Holdings.
The Durrant Group Joins U.S. Green Building Council
The Durrant Group Inc. has announced its membership in the
U.S. Green Building Council. This is a milestone for the architecture,
engineering and project delivery firm, which has tripled in
size over the last decade.
One of the hallmark traditions of the USGBC is its consensus-oriented
approach to ensuring an effective balance between state-of-the-art
concepts and technologies and established green building practices.
The council's premier project offering is the LEEDTM Green
Building Rating System.
"Clients are demanding energy-efficient and environmentally
friendly materials in their buildings," said Clyde Fuhrmiester,
PE, CEM, LAP, a LEED-accredited engineer with Durrant. "Membership
with the USGBC adds to our capability to lead the drive toward
sustainability in the design community."
Nielsons Skanska Inc. Wins National Award for Quality in
Asphalt Paving
The National Asphalt Pavement Association has announced that
Nielsons Skanska Inc. of Cortez has won a 2003 Quality in
Construction Award for excellence in construction of an asphalt
pavement. The company received its award at a special ceremony
at the association's 49th Annual Convention in Phoenix.
Nielsons Skanska won the award for the milling, overlay and
leveling of Durango-La Plata County Airport Runway 2/20. The
company limited impacts to the community - including ensuring
the availability of the runway for fire-fighting airplanes
- by cooperative project planning and construction. The company's
crews worked 14- and 15-hour single shifts, double shifts
and Sundays to further accelerate an already shortened paving
schedule.
Nielsons Skanska used asphalt paving to correct the grade
problems with the existing runway, allowing it to meet current
FAA safety standards without total reconstruction. The runway
also met all smoothness criteria.
Ash & White Wins Contract for Expo Recreation Center
Ash & White Construction Co. has been commissioned to
complete the remodel of the City of Aurora's Expo Recreation
Center and an addition to the facility. The project began
March 22 and is scheduled to be completed in October 2004.
The architect on the project is Lewis Himes Associates Inc.
Bryan Construction Moves to New Headquarters
Bryan Construction Inc. has moved into a new office building.

The Bryan Construction facility service group has been renovating
the two-story, 10,000-sq-ft child care facility into a quality
office space. After the demolition of virtually the entire
interior space, a variety of products and finishes can be
seen, including accent walls, color schemes, hand-painted
lobby, maple flooring, glacier and sandrift ceiling tile and
indirect lighting.
Each group within Bryan Construction has its own identity.
First floor north houses the commercial, preconstruction and
estimating departments. First floor south houses Bryan facilities
services. Second floor north is the federal projects group,
and administrative, marketing and financial services are on
the second level south.
Pahl-Pahl-Pahl Honored
At the Hilton Hotels Corp. "Seize the Day" Owners'
Conference in New Orleans, Pahl-Pahl-Pahl pc Architects/Planners
was honored as a member of the Hilton Architect's Roundtable
- 2004.
Pahl-Pahl-Pahl has provided architectural design services
to the hospitality industry for more than 20 years. The firm
is presently working on two hotels in downtown Denver and
two hotels in Florida.
Lantz-Boggio-Designed Project Completed in Kansas
Lantz-Boggio Architects PC has completed the Heartland Cancer
Center in Great Bend, Kan. The specialty medical office building,
designed for the Central Kansas Medical Center, houses a linear
accelerator with treatment area and chemotherapy space.
The building incorporates both a modern and urban appearance
with a metal entry vestibule surrounded by tall curtain walls.
The curtain walls frame the front and rear of the lobby space.
The various treatment areas of the facility were created to
allow generous amounts of natural light to create a more therapeutic
environment for patients.
The building is the second facility within a medical office
park planned to contain several other specialty medical office
buildings in western Kansas. local subcontractors were selected
by Lantz-Boggio to help boost the local economy. The 11,000-sq-ft
facility was completed on budget in nine months.
Grainger Opens New North Denver Location
Grainger, a leading broad-line supplier of facilities maintenance
products, has opened a new location in North Denver at 6935
Broadway, near 70th and Broadway and close to the Boulder
Turnpike.
Customers in North Denver can now place their orders and pick
them up at the new Grainger Express location the same day.
Orders will be shuttled to the new facility four times a day
from Grainger's full-service branch on Tejon St., which stocks
a broad selection of products such as HVAC, electrical and
safety items.
Grainger's new facility is part of the company's market expansion
initiative in Denver and 24 other major metro markets across
the United States. Grainger also plans to open an area specifically
tailored to the needs of contractors at its full-service branch
on Tejon St. in Denver.
