ASTM Certification
The Carter & Burgess Materials Laboratory in Colorado
Springs met the criteria set forth by the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers and has been added to the list of commercial

The new certification as an ASTM facility will allow the
firm to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which is
involved with large federal civil projects, including dams
and military base construction. The certification will help
the lab expand into these and other large projects and maintain
a healthy backlog for laboratory operations.
The Colorado Springs lab was previously accredited by the
National Institute of Standards and Technology as an AASHTO

Riviera Ranks High on Safety Performance
Poll
Riviera Electric in Littleton ranked seventh in parent company
Integrated Electrical Services' safety performance poll of
its 34 subsidiaries nationwide.
The survey found that Riviera's recordable frequency rate
has continued to improve to its current low of 1.89. Developed
by OSHA to compare safety levels between various companies
on the same scale, the recordable frequency rate national
average for the electrical industry is currently 6.3.
The number is significant to companies because any rate at
or above the national average means it is more difficult to
obtain new projects. Riviera's current Experience Modification
Rate is 0.58.

A $2 million federal grant and a $6 million federal loan
will help the city and county of Denver encourage the development
of TAXI, a private urban renewal project in River North, a
former industrial area located north of downtown.
The federal funds came from the U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development's Brownfields Economic Development Initiative.
The project was one of 11 selected nationwide to receive the
competitive grant.
Earlier this year, Zeppelin broke ground on the second phase
of the development, which includes a 550-ft-long, four-story
building with 60,000 sq ft of commercial space on the first
two floors and 44 moderately priced loft condominium units
on the third floor.
At a total cost of $16.8 million, Phase II is expected to
create more than 200 new permanent jobs in River North, with
more jobs in future phases. Upon completion, the entire project
will total more than 300,000 sq ft of space in central Denver's
longest office building.
The project was designed by a team of high-profile architects
working with the Zeppelin Development's own architect, Alan
Brown. San Francisco's David Baker, Arizona's Will Bruder
and Aspen's Harry Teague worked in an unprecedented collaboration
to design a single 550-ft-long, work/live building.
