Local Engineering Firm Merges with San Francisco Consultants/DLR Group Acquires Newman Cavender & Doane/CH2M HILL Ranked One of Country’s Largest Employee-Owned Firms

Meurer & Associates
Joins Kennedy/Jenks

Meurer & Associates of Lakewood joined forces this summer with San Francisco-based Kennedy/Jenks Consultants, bringing the total combined staff of the engineering and science consulting firm to 560.

Kennedy/Jenks Consultants has 23 offices throughout the western United States. The employee-owned firm provides engineering and environmental science consulting services to the water environment, transportation and industrial-manufacturing sectors to clients nationwide.

Meurer & Associates, also a family-run business, has provided water, wastewater and recycled water-consulting services to municipalities, utility districts and private clients in Colorado since 1978.

Current Kennedy/Jenks staff in Colorado have moved into the Lakewood office, where Meurer manages the combined staff.


DLR Group Acquires Denver’s
Newman Cavender & Doane

DLR Group, an architectural firm from Colorado Springs, has acquired Denver architects Newman Cavender & Doane. DLR’s existing office in Colorado Springs remains in that location.

Before the acquisition, Newman Cavender & Doane designed the $65-million Denver Newspaper Agency building, which houses both The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News.

DLR Group Newman Cavender leaders said the new partnership “feels right” because both firms share similar working cultures and a passion for design.

The combined firm is pursuing an aggressive growth strategy to augment its national scope of work. DLR Group Newman Cavender is working on the firm’s first joint project, Frontier Airlines’ Denver headquarters.


Krische Construction,
KCI Construction Merge

Krische Construction and KCI Construction have merged operations. The two Longmont-based firms finalized an agreement in late June, and the new firm is called Krische Construction. 

Krische acquired the 5,800-sq-ft office building that KCI formerly occupied at 605 Weaver Park Rd. in Longmont and the lot adjacent to the building. The merged Krische Construction employs more than 30 workers and has estimated revenues of $15 million to $18 million this year. The firm specializes in new office, retail, restaurant, medical office, educational and government facility construction projects as well as historical renovations. KCI Construction added a strong background in medical office and large institutional experience to the new firm.


Wells-Fargo Completes Acquisition
of CIT’s Construction Unit

Wells Fargo & Co. wrapped up the acquisition of CIT Construction, the U.S. construction lending business unit of CIT Group Inc. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

CIT Construction’s name is now Wells Fargo Construction, operating as part of Wells Fargo Equipment Finance Inc. Its main office remains in Tempe, Ariz.

With more than $5 billion in managed receivables and 250-plus team members, Wells Fargo Construction provides commercial financing to the construction industry. The unit serves contractors who build and repair infrastructure, manufacturers of construction equipment, as well as distributors and dealers that sell and rent construction equipment nationwide.


CH2M HILL Ranked Sixth Largest
Employee-Owned Company

Denver-based CH2M HILL, a global full-service engineering, construction and operations firm, has been ranked the nation’s sixth largest employee-owned company, according to the National Center for Employee Ownership.

Among the 100 companies listed, CH2M HILL is the largest employee-owned company in the engineering and construction industry and holds the top ranking in the Rocky Mountain region.

Rankings are based on the number of company employees. Companies must be at least 50%-owned by current or former employees through a broad-based employee ownership plan.

With $4.5 billion in revenue, CH2M HILL is a program management, construction management for fee and design firm. The firm’s work is concentrated in transportation, water, energy, environment, communications, construction and industrial facilities.

CH2M HILL has more than 19,000 employees in regional offices around the world.


Mark Young Construction
Moves to Frederick

Mark Young Construction Inc. has consolidated its Fort Collins and Denver offices at its newly completed location in Frederick. Construction started in December 2006, and the move into the new building was completed at the end of June.

The 18,818-sq-ft office and warehouse is located at 7200 Miller Pl. in Frederick. Sanderson Architects of Boulder designed the new building. 

The 18-year-old construction management/general contracting firm works on a wide range of commercial projects throughout the state. Current projects include the $4.2-million Dick’s Sporting Goods store at Southwest Plaza Mall in Littleton and the Saddle Ridge Condo renovation in Beaver Creek.


QC Data Opens New
Engineering Support Center

QC Data Inc. has opened a new, fully dedicated Engineering Support Center in Greenwood Village.

The company occupied approximately 15,000 sq ft of space in the Denver Tech Center near the company’s existing U.S. headquarters office and operations center.

QC Data specializes in managing, maintaining and improving engineering and asset data for telecommunication companies, utilities and other infrastructure-based organizations worldwide.

The new center will provide a full range of engineering services to support communications and video providers and their suppliers. The company’s existing DTC office will continue to support its ongoing telecommunication, utility and real estate data management programs.
