Denver Health Pavilion for Women and Children Earns LEED Silver Denver Health's newest hospital addition, the Pavilion for Women and Children, has been awarded the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED-silver certification, the first public safety net hospital project in the country to be designated a LEED building.
The team of Boulder Associates and Gresham Smith & Partners of Nashville designed the $58-million, 218,000-sq-ft pavilion to ensure that it was environmentally efficient and safe for patients while facilitating the high-quality health care Denver Health is nationally recognized for providing.
The pavilion, completed in August 2006, was built to accommodate 107 new beds and includes 15 private labor and delivery rooms, surgery suites, 48 mom/baby rooms, 16 neonatal intensive care beds and 28 pediatric/pediatric intensive care beds.
Green features consist of energy and resource efficiency, locally manufactured or locally harvested materials and recycled materials.
Catamount Constructors Celebrates 10th Anniversary
Catamount Constructors Inc. of Evergreen is celebrating 10 years of providing general contracting services to owners and developers across the United States. Founded in 1997 and authorized to work in 49 states, Catamount also has an office in Atlanta.
The company reported more than $187 million in revenues for 2006 and has also been ranked in Engineering News Record’s Top 400 Contractors since 2005. It is a top 25 contractor in both Denver and Atlanta.
Catamount’s services include general contracting, construction management, design-build and pre-construction, including cost estimating, conceptual budgeting, scheduling and value-engineering. Key markets include retail, commercial, industrial, religious, automotive, multifamily and hospitality.
F. Rogers Corp. Comes to Denver
F. Rogers Corp., a specialty contractor that started in Livermore, Calif., in 1986, has opened a new branch in Aurora. The company specializes in curtain-wall insulation, perimeter fire barriers, curtain-wall firestopping, joint firestopping, penetration firestopping, mechanical and pipe insulation, building insulation, commercial insulation and acoustical joint treatment.
Greenfield Architects Designs
New Look for Lodo’s Spaces
Greenfield Architects of Denver assisted in the design and the renovation of Spaces, a commercial office furniture dealership located in a 1940s warehouse in Lower Downtown Denver.
The 14,000-sq-ft project transformed a warehouse into a pedestrian-oriented office furniture showroom with an enhanced street presence, achieved with a new aluminum-clad canopy entry, through stairways and the original dock that provide a full-length walkway along the front.
Provident Construction of Denver was the contractor for the approximately $100,000 project.
CH2M Hill Wins Panama Canal Expansion, New York Power Plant
The Panama Canal Authority announced in mid-August its selection of Denver’s CH2M Hill Cos. to be program manager for the $5.25-billion expansion of the historic waterway. The firm had been competing against Parsons Brinckerhoff, New York City; and URS Holdings Inc., San Francisco, for the management role, which will involve assisting the agency in overseeing the design-build effort to build two new lock structures able to handle larger “post-Panamax”-size vessels.
CH2M Hill will also build the new, environmentally friendly Besicorp/Empire combined-cycle power plant in Rensselaer, N.Y. CH2M Hill subsidiary LG Constructors will perform integrated engineering, procurement and construction for the 535-mw power plant with a peak capacity of 635 mw. Total projected cost is more than $500 million. Engineering is currently under way, with construction soon to follow. Equipment installation for the new power station should begin in early 2008, with facility operations by Dec. 31, 2009.
White Awarded Garfield County
Justice Center and Police Station
White Construction Group of Castle Rock has been awarded a $7.3-million contract for the construction of the Garfield County Justice Center and a new police station in Rifle.
The project consists of three buildings: the 16,000-sq-ft Garfield County Court, the 17,800-sq-ft police and municipal court operations facility and a 3,184-sq-ft police evidence storage building.
The architect is Humphries Poli Architects of Denver. Completion is expected in October 2008.

Drahota Construction Selected
as GC for Trailhead Lodge
Resort Ventures West has chosen Drahota Construction of Steamboat Springs as the general contractor for Trailhead Lodge, the centerpiece of the 47-acre Wildhorse Meadows residential resort community in Steamboat Springs. Drahota was chosen based on its building history in mountain locations and more than three decades of construction experience with high-end residential projects and the firm’s experience with green building, said Thom Faiola, construction manager for Resort Ventures West.
A&P Wins School Renovation
Aurora’s Adolfson & Peterson is renovating a $24.4-million, 260,000-sq-ft high school in Cheyenne. The renovation to East High School will take place over the next three years in eight different phases, consisting of extensive mechanical and electrical upgrades, a gymnasium renovation and classroom and lab demolition/rebuild.
