Design Completed for Kiewit Western’s Littleton Headquarters/Mortenson Finishes 50th Wind Power Project /Contractors Donate to Build New Loveland Boys & Girls Club

Kiewit Western’s expansion will accommodate its anticipated staff growth and future needs with a two-story, 15,000-sq-ft building.

Construction Under Way on Kiewit’s Littleton HQ

Greenfield Architects of Denver has announced the completion of design and the start of construction for a building addition and renovation of Kiewit Western’s offices in Littleton.

The project consists of a 15,000-sq-ft, two-story building expansion as well as extensive upgrades to the existing 12,000-sq-ft building. In addition to providing a new public image, the completed construction will offer state-of-the-art office facilities for Kiewit Western’s growing business.

Other project team members include Structural Consultants Inc., Calibre Engineering Inc., Kazin & Associates, Thompson Engineering, Walczak Design and Kiewit Building Group.


Breckenridge Building Center Project Nearly Complete

Denver’s Himmelman Construction is nearly done with construction on the new Breckenridge Building Center. Originally designed as a 26,000-sq-ft wood construction building, Himmelman Construction converted it into a pre-engineered metal building, which saved the owners approximately $1 million while maintaining the rustic wood construction appearance. Despite working conditions affected by the winter weather, the building is on schedule for completion this month.


Knudson Gloss Honored at Remodeling Awards

Denver’s Knudson Gloss Architects won first and second place in the whole-house remodel category at the 2007 Colorado Awards for Remodeling Excellence for its design work on the Cooper and Schwartz residences.

Presented by the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver’s Remodelers Council, the CARE Awards is the largest awards program in Colorado focused exclusively on the remodeling industry. A&P Awarded Contract for Yampa Valley Medical Center

Adolfson & Peterson Construction of Aurora was awarded the contract for Yampa Valley Medical Center.

The 23,000-sq-ft addition and renovation project is located in Steamboat and scheduled to break ground in May. The project includes an expansion to the existing facility as well as a renovation of the surgery and labor and delivery areas.


Mortenson Completes 50th Wind Power Project

Mortenson Construction recently completed its 50th wind power project at the Fenton Wind Farm in Chandler, Minn.

The Fenton project is the single largest installation of wind energy in Minnesota to date. It has the capacity to produce 205 mw of power, the equivalent of powering 66,000 average homes in the United States per year. In the last decade, Mortenson has constructed 34% of the wind energy capacity in the U.S. to date.

With the completion of the Fenton project, 26% more clean wind power has come online within Minnesota, making it the third largest producer of wind power in the United States. Mortenson has played a significant role in this ranking by constructing more than half of the wind farms in Minnesota, totaling more than 520 mw.

Mortenson’s Energy Group has constructed more than one-third of all wind power in 19 states and provinces, To date, Mortenson has been involved in the construction of more than 5,000 mw of wind power, the equivalent of supplying 1.5-million homes with electricity.


Heath Construction Selected to Build Two School Projects

School districts in Larimer and Weld counties have hired Northern Colorado-based Heath Construction as the CM/GC for two projects that include the renovation of a large church into a high school and the creation of a collegiate-level track-and-field facility.

Thompson School District R2-J in Loveland selected Heath to transform the 40,000-sq-ft Immanuel Lutheran Church into an updated facility for Harold Ferguson High School, a 35-year-old alternative high school. The $2.7-million renovation requires architectural modifications and replacement of all mechanical and electrical systems.

Platte Valley School District, Weld RE-7, chose Heath to construct a $1-million, collegiate-level track-and-field facility for Platte Valley High School.


Krische Construction Completes Berthoud Church Remodel

Northern Colorado’s Krische Construction recently completed a remodel of the First United Church of Berthoud, located at 920 Ninth St. Krische enlarged the narthex area, improved administrative offices, provided upgraded restroom facilities and made improvements to the circulation, fire and alarm systems. Moore & Bishton Architects was the architect for the project, valued at more than $500,000.


White Construction Completes New Fire Station No. 8

White Construction Group, a Colorado-based commercial general construction firm, recently completed Fire Station No. 8 in southeast Colorado Springs.

Located at 3737 Airport Rd., just east of the old station, the project consists of a new 12,595-sq-ft building with three apparatus bays, sleeping quarters, a large kitchen, day room, dispatch center, weight room and a community room. This building replaces the current Fire Station No. 8 built in 1966 and is one of the busiest fire stations in Colorado.

HB&A of Colorado Springs served as the architect.


Contractors Contribute to Build Loveland Boys and Girls Club

Sinnett Builders broke ground in early January on a new $3-million Loveland Boys & Girls Club facility, scheduled for completion Aug. 1.

Individual donations from the project suppliers and subcontractors range from $750 to more than $24,000. Most of the donors are based in Loveland, but many are from the Northern Colorado area. The list of donors includes: Homeland Fence Security, Loveland Ready Mix Concrete, GLH Construction, A&M Landscape Concepts, Rodriguez Concrete, Advanced Roofing Technologies, Earhart Construction, Action Glass, Holsinger Drywall, L&L Acoustical, Travis Morre Painting, B.J.’s Custom Cabinets, Lind’s Plumbing and Heating, Front Range Fire Protection, Gibson Heating and Air, and Sinnett Builders.

Several generous donations as well as new partnerships also allowed the project to move forward. The D.R. and Virginia Pulliam Family awarded $1 million over the next five years toward construction costs; the city of Loveland gave $850,000 to the capital campaign; McWhinney donated seven acres of land for a charter school and the club; and New Vision Charter School decided to partner with the organization. Together, these donations raised $4.2 million; however, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County still hope to raise another $800,000 to meet its goal of $5 million before the August opening.
