Nolte Hired for Cherry Creek North Improvements/Roche Awarded Weld County Project/A&P Nears $1-Billion Benchmark
Nolte Will Oversee Cherry Creek North Upgrade
The Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District recently hired Nolte Associates Inc. of Denver to provide program management and inspection services for $18.5 million in improvements to the 16-block district.
Nolte will serve as the client’s agent for planning and redevelopment, which includes selection and oversight of the design and construction teams, facilitating communication with area business and property owners and city officials, and phasing the improvements for minimal economic impact to the 320 businesses in the area.
Some of the planned improvements include a new design for walkways and crosswalks, including improvements to lighting and signage, and integrating natural gardens on street corners.
Roche Awarded Human Services Building Project in Weld County
Weld County recently awarded construction of the county’s new Social/Human Services Building to Roche Constructors Inc. of Greeley.
Roche will team with Hauser Architects of Loveland on the design-build project, located at the Social Services Complex at 315 North 11th Ave. in Greeley. The 40,000-sq-ft, three-story building will include offices and waiting areas, lobby space and meeting rooms. The design incorporates elements of the city of Greeley’s "Mercado del Norte" standards. Construction will start in June, with a tentative completion date of Dec. 31.
StudioINSITE to Start Master Planning Services for Regis Jesuit High School
Regis Jesuit High School has contracted Denver’s studioINSITE to provide master-planning services for improvements and additions to its existing campus.
The plan, which addresses current and future demands of the high school from both an economic and spatial standpoint, is to be based on a space plan recently completed by Regis.
Changes include additions to academic space, a centralized administration, a performing arts center for music and art programs, improvements to playing fields, a field house and additional parking.
Phase I calls for three alternative conceptual plans, which studioINSITE will present to the board of trustees in June.
MOA Architecture Awarded Syracuse Office Building Project
MOA Architecture of Denver was recently awarded the new Forest City Stapleton Syracuse Office Building project.
This five-story, 126,720-sq-ft speculative Class-A office building will be located on the northwest corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Syracuse Street in the Stapleton neighborhood.
Designed with flexible floor plates to accommodate large as well as small tenants, the facility is seeking LEED-gold certification under the USGBC’s core-and-shell program.
Alliance Construction Building Housing for Denver’s Homeless
Loveland-based Alliance Construction Solutions is partnering with St. Francis Center and the Rocky Mountain Housing Development Corp. to provide GC/CM services for the St. Francis Cornerstone Residences for homeless individuals and couples in Denver.
In November, St. Francis Center and the Rocky Mountain Housing Development Corp. selected VTBS to design the residences as transition housing for the homeless.
The new five-story, 42,600-sq-ft, 50-unit building is comprised of one-bedroom and studio units. It is located on the corner of Park Avenue West and Curtis streets, in the Curtis Park neighborhood. Construction began in April, and the project is slated for completion in January 2009.
Oldcastle Precast–Amcor Finishes Platteville Expansion
Oldcastle Precast–Amcor recently unveiled a $4.5-million manhole plant expansion in the company’s Platteville location in northern Colorado.
The expansion includes a state-of-the-art manhole machine that can produce up to 160 pieces of manhole material a day. The Platteville plant will now manufacture and carry the full line of manhole material for sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water line, irrigation line and custom uses, including grade rings and cast-iron rings and covers.
A&P Nears $1-Billion Benchmark, Increases Its Focus on Sustainability
Adolfson & Peterson Construction of Aurora experienced record growth with nearly $850 million of construction completed in 2007. With another $800 million in backlog for 2008 completion, the company is fast approaching the $1-billion benchmark.
The key to escalation for A&P is a focus on building sustainable buildings and creating a sustainable organization, according to officials at the firm. A&P is currently building 16 LEED-registered projects in Colorado, Arizona, Wyoming and Minnesota.
Pirnack-Walters Raises Funds for St. Baldrick’s
Employees from Littleton’s Pirnack-Walters Commercial Contractors volunteered to have their heads shaved in March to raise funds for St. Baldrick’s an organization that funds pediatric cancer research. Next year, the firm plans to issue a challenge to other local general contractors to get involved in the community effort.
St. Baldrick’s is a volunteer-driven fundraising program for childhood cancer research. In eight years, the organization’s events have taken place in 18 countries and 46 U.S. states, raising more than $34 million and shaving more than 46,000 heads.

Lend Lease Communities’ Office Earns LEED Gold
Denver-based Lend Lease Communities recently earned LEED-gold certification for commercial interiors for its sustainable office building in downtown Denver’s Alamo Plaza Building at 1401 17th St.
Sustainable elements of the office building include daylighting to increase natural light, automated motion sensors, low-flow water faucets and dual-flush toilets. More than half of the electricity comes from renewable wind power, and 70% of construction waste was recycled.
Vail Capital Partners Acquires Riverfront Residential Complex
Avon-based Vail Capital Partners LLC recently acquired the River Run condominium complex near Vail located on the north side of Interstate 70 just west of Dowd Junction.
River Run is a 117-unit residential complex located on more than seven acres along the Eagle River. Vail Capital Partners purchased the property, originally developed in 1983, from 117 River Group LP. Improvements include exterior and interior restoration and resurfacing of the parking lot. VCP will be exploring multiple redevelopment options over the next several months.
