Pinkard Completes Willow Glen
Senior Residences
Pinkard Construction Co. recently completed construction
of the $6.5 million Willow Glen Senior Residences, a three-story,
54,000-sq-ft affordable senior housing project at 1585 Kipling
St. in Lakewood. The wood-framed structure houses 70 one-
and two-bedroom units built over a single-story, 20,000-sq-ft,
below-grade, cast-in-place parking garage. Amenities include
three laundry rooms, two elevators, an exercise room, hair
salon, underground parking, and windows low enough for those
in wheelchairs to have outside views.
The new Willow Glen Senior Residences replaces the Lakewood
Housing Authority's older, 50-apartment Vance Terrace senior
housing complex. Odell Architects of Evergreen is the architect,
and the Lakewood Housing Authority is the owner.
Power Equipment Named Link-Belt
Distributor
Power Equipment Co. of Denver has been named as the Link-Belt
crane distributor for all of Colorado and most of Wyoming
with the exception of the southwestern most counties. Power
Equipment will provide sales and customer support from four
locations, including Denver, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction
and Casper.
Swanson Rink to Design Baggage
Screening System
Swanson Rink Inc., a consulting engineering firm based in
Denver, will design the 100 percent in-line baggage screening
systems for Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport in Burbank,
Calif. The project involves design of inbound and outbound
baggage handling systems to accommodate in-line explosion
detection systems equipment as mandated by the Transportation
Security Administration.
Swanson Rink's scope of work will include determining maximum
processing times and systems processing capabilities; conceptual
layouts, simulations and testing to determine the most practical
baggage system that will fit in the available space without
major modifications; phasing plans for installation; construction
documents; and construction administration services during
installation.
The project design is expected be complete in mid-2004.
Barker Rinker Seacat Wins New
Contracts
Denver-based Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture has won two
new contracts.
o Wheat Ridge Senior Center Study - BRSA will begin a five-month
study in January that will examine land use and building plans
for an addition and renovation to the 9,000-sq-ft. center.
BRSA will provide conceptual design and budgeting for the
center.
o Waunakee, Wisc. Recreation Center Study - BRSA and Bray
Associates Architects of Wisconsin are conducting a feasibility
study through spring 2004 for a new senior/community recreation
center for this village outside of Madison. The study will
determine the site plan, building program and operational
costs, as well as the design for the $5 million, 45,000-sq-ft
facility.
Building Energy Firms Announce
Merger
Two of the nation's leading building energy engineering and
evaluation firms have merged.
The combining of Architectural Energy Corp., headquartered
in Boulder, and Eley Associates of San Francisco strengthens
AEC's ability to serve the California market and expands Eley's
engineering capabilities. The new firm, which began operating
on Feb. 1, 2004, retains the Architectural Energy Corp. name,
with offices in Boulder, San Francisco and Chicago.
Principals of the firm will be Michael Holtz, AIA; Donald
Frey, PE; and Charles Eley, FAIA, PE. Erik Kolderup, PE, will
be an associate principal. AEC has been in business for 22
years and Eley for 25 years.
Guy's Floor Service Opens Colorado
Springs Center
Guy's Floor Service, the largest distributor of Missouri
hardwood flooring west of the Mississippi, has opened a full-service
design center at 870 Elkton Drive., Suite 100, Colorado Springs.
The Colorado Springs design center covers more than 10,000
sq ft, about 3,500 of which is dedicated to hardwood flooring,
carpet and tile samples. Seven employees work full time in
the offices and showroom. Guy's Floor Service also has locations
in Denver and Fort Collins.
