Avon's Buffalo Ridge Apartments Complete

CFC Construction Inc. recently completed the Buffalo Ridge Affordable Housing complex in Avon. The three-story, 260,000-sq-ft project consists of 244 affordable apartment units in 15 buildings. Buffalo Ridge provides much-needed affordable housing for the Avon area.


Colorado-Based Firm Commissions Walt Disney Concert Hall

Golden-based Engineering Economics Inc. was selected as the building commissioning authority for the new Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

Started in 1987 through a $50 million grant by Lillian B. Disney, the 293,000-sq-ft Walt Disney Concert Hall was designed by acclaimed architect Frank Gehry. It serves as the new home for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and is destined to become one of the most recognized architectural landmarks on the West Coast, as well as one of the world's most sophisticated concert halls.

Building commissioning is the process for achieving, validating and documenting a facility and confirming its systems are planned, designed, installed, tested and capable of being operated and maintained conform with the owner's vision as well as the design intent. Working as the owner's representative, EEI was able to assure that the Walt Disney Concert Hall was built according to the approved design and project construction documentation.

EEI provided building commissioning services, including review of construction documents, equipment submittals, contractor start-up checklists, development of functional test procedures, performance of functional testing and provision of the final commissioning report.

EEI commissioned all of the major building systems, including - but not limited to - building air systems, humidifiers, fan coils, air conditioning units, lobby reheat coils, hot water pumps, chilled water pumps, domestic hot water systems, dry coolers, emergency power, over-ride panels and the facilities management system, including the operator workstation.


Eilar & Associates Opens Fort Collins Office

Eilar & Associates - an acoustical and environmental company based in Encinitas, Calif. - has opened a branch office in Fort Collins. The firm has more than 25 years of experience in conducting acoustical investigations, environmental impact analyses and site assessments.

The Colorado office is headed by Dr. Daniel R. Raichel, a prominent acoustician and author.


Weitz Begins Construction on Midland Center in Glenwood

The Weitz Co. has begun construction on the 35,320-sq-ft Midland Center office park in Glenwood Springs. Midland Center will include four two-story office buildings. The first tenants to move in will be the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Western Building Center Door and Window Materials Division.

Weitz will also complete tenant improvements for new tenants as the spaces are leased.


Applied Control Equipment Improvement Project Complete

Ware Malcomb has announced that design and construction are complete for Applied Control Equipment's 35,000-sq-ft tenant improvement.

Applied Control Equipment is a local business partner of Emerson Process Management, a division of Emerson Electric, focused on the sale and service of industrial process controls. The firm's new office is in Centennial Airport Center at 6981 South Quentin St. in Centennial.

Centennial Airport Center is a new property owned and managed by Panattoni Development Co. LLC of Englewood.

The improvement project consisted of 23,000 sq ft of office, including a lobby, open and private offices, boardroom, demo room and training room; and 12,000 sq ft of manufacturing and warehouse space. The total estimated construction cost was $993,000.

Ware Malcomb, a Denver architecture and interior design firm, provided planning and interior design for the project. Centerre Construction of Greenwood Village served as the general contractor.


Taylor Kohrs Announces Two New Projects

Taylor Kohrs will build a new office building owned by Specialty Enterprises at 12100 Melody Dr. in Westminster. The architect for the project is Olson Architecture.

Taylor Kohrs has also been selected as the general contractor for the remodeling work at the Sports Column restaurant and bar in Denver. The Sports Column project is scheduled for completion in early 2004. Pirnack & Associates is the architect.


Coover-Clark & Associates Announces Two New Projects

Denver-based Coover-Clark & Associates was selected as an architectural designer on the project team that will develop a new Army Aviation Support Facility for the Colorado Army National Guard. It will house Chinook and Blackhawk helicopters at Buckley Air Force Base.

Coover-Clark wrote the master plan for the new facility with BWR and will be completing the architectural design with CH2M Hill. All firms are national companies that specialize in federal/military/aviation design and planning.

Coover-Clark was also chosen to design the Parks and Forestry Headquarters for the City of Longmont. The firm will plan and design the new facilities that will house all parks and forestry operations, staff and equipment for the city.


El Paso County Parking Structure Project Awarded to DLR Group

The El Paso County Commissioners named DLR Group in association with Anderson Mason Dale Architects as the architects for the new El Paso County Tejon/Costilla Parking Structure.

The proposed four-level, 500-stall project - expected to cost $6.5 million - will provide off-street parking requirements for the new El Paso County Judicial Building Expansion Project.

DLR Group and Anderson Mason Dale Architects are currently completing the schematic design. Walker Parking, a national expert on parking structures, will be providing consulting services to the design team. The parking facility will be located within a block of the Judicial Building Complex.


Robinson Brick Co. Acquires Aucutt's Inc.

Denver-based Robinson Brick Co. has announced the acquisition of a former distributor, Aucutt's Inc. based out of Montgomery, Ill.

The company will have a significant retail presence in Chicago and surrounding areas, increasing its number of masonry and design centers nationwide to 13. The announcement follows the company's recent acquisitions of Powers Masonry Supply, Billings Brick & Masonry Supply, Cody Brick & Masonry Supply and Rocky Mountain Concrete Products.

Aucutt's Inc., formerly a key distribution partner for Robinson Brick Co., has been providing masonry products since 1898. The company will be known as Aucutt's Inc., a Robinson Brick Company.
