Brierley Associates Doing Relief Tunnel
Study
Brierley Associates is assisting Crawford, Murphy & Tilly
Inc. with a predesign study for the Coldwater Sanitary Relief
Sewer project in St. Louis. The study deals with a variety
of issues, including right-of-way, ground conditions, excess
wet weather flow storage options, ground contamination, community
concerns and construction costs.
The Littleton-based firm helped with layout and completion
of the subsurface exploration program and with all issues
associated with tunnel planning and design. It will also provide
cost estimates for various tunneling alternatives.
The existing 40-year-old Coldwater Creek sanitary trunk sewer
serves the Coldwater Creek watershed, which encompasses an

to the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District's Coldwater Treatment
Plant and experiences surcharging during heavy rain that results
in basement backups and overflows into the creek.
A decision on the best alignment option for the project is
due Sept. 20.
