Fentress Bradburn Architects Chosen
for Museum Project
Denver's Fentress Bradburn Architects
has been selected to help implement a new strategic plan for
the Boston Museum of Science. The plan calls for integrating
technology into programs and exhibits, expanding outreach
to the broadest possible audience and renovating current galleries
to improve the overall visitor experience.
"Given our mission and our unique location - which spans
both Cambridge and Boston at the head of the Charles - we
agreed that Fentress Bradburn could enhance the museum, inside
and out, while putting the visitor first," MOS President
Ioannis Miaoulis said.
My House Magazine Debuts in Colorado
My House in the Mountain States, a new regional magazine
and information resource to serve high-end homeowners and
design and building professionals, went on sale last month
at the Tattered Cover and Barnes & Noble bookstores.
My House establishes a unique new resource that bridges the
"shelter" and "builder" media categories
by serving all of the important decision-makers in a homebuilding
or renovation project - the homeowner, architect, homebuilder
and interior designer.
The magazine is published by McGraw-Hill Construction, a
division of The McGraw-Hill Companies.
Belmar Earns Arcadis EPA's Phoenix Award
Arcadis was recently named as the Region 8 recipient of the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Phoenix Award for excellence
in brownfield redevelopment.
The award honored Arcadis' environmental accomplishments
in the development of Belmar, the 103-acre, $560-million mixed-use
project designed to create a downtown for the city of Lakewood.
Arcadis developed and implemented an overall business solution
for Continuum Partners LLC to revitalize and redevelop the
site of the former Villa Italia mall into a vibrant, mixed-use
community.
Gleeds Expands Its U.S. Operation into
Denver
Gleeds, the international construction management firm, is
expanding its U.S. operation with the opening of a new office
in Denver that will capitalize on the expanding opportunities
in the federal and educational sectors.
Gleeds's U.S. operation - based in Atlanta - has established
a strong market in local, state and government projects and
handled project management and cost management services for
a number of high-profile schemes.
Nunn Finishes School Projects
Nunn Construction Inc. has finished several school projects
along the Front Range:
- The Florissant Library in Florissant Park. Pinnacle DesignWorks
Inc. of Woodland Park is the architect. Prime subcontractors
on the project included Bochnak Mechanical Inc., Riviera
Electric, Athey Beamen, Industrial Constructors/ Managers
Inc. and Stout Drywall.
- A variety of mechanical and building improvements to
Powell Middle School in the Littleton Public School District.
The $3.6 million project was designed by LKA Partners Inc.
Prime subcontractors included Cobb Mechanical Contractors,
Riviera Electric and Sprehe Interior Construction.
- The da Vinci Academy, a 56,700-sq-ft, state-of-the-art
campus for the Academy School District. It was designed
by Christiansen, Reece and Partners PC. Prime subcontractors
included SteelCon Inc., Cobb Mechanical Contractors, Rocky
Mountain Interior Construction Inc. and Central States Roofing
Company Inc.
- Meridian Ranch Elementary School for Falcon School District
No. 49 in Falcon. The 32,100-sq-ft campus was designed by
architect LKA Partners Inc. Major subcontractors included
Bochnak Mechanical, Inc., Perkey Steel, Tri-Star Masonry
and McKinney Door and Hardware.
Hyder Construction Working on Gambro
Healthcare Project
Hyder Construction Inc. has announced its first project for
Lakewood-based Gambro Healthcare, a subsidiary of Gambro AB,
an international leader in medical technology and health care.
Hyder's initial project - now under way - is the renovation
of a four-floor, 90,000-sq-ft building in the Denver West
office complex. The new administrative offices were designed
by burkettdesign Inc. and are scheduled for occupancy in the
first quarter of 2005.
J.E. Dunn Lands St. Francis Medical
Center
J.E. Dunn Construction Rocky Mountain Region has been selected
as general contractor for the 250,000 sq-ft, nine-story tower
addition to St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Neb.
ACI-Boland is the architect for the $68 million project.
Construction of the acute-care hospital is scheduled to begin
in May 2005, with an anticipated completion date of July 2007.
Demolition of existing structures and site preparation will
begin in March.
Architectural Record and Rizzoli Release
'Imagining Ground Zero'
Architectural Record and Rizzoli International Publications
have released "Imagining Ground Zero, Official and Unofficial
Proposals for the World Trade Center Site," a 240-page,
hardcover book written by Suzanne Stephens, special correspondent
to Architectural Record, with Ian Luna and Ron Broadhurst.
Editor-in-Chief Robert Ivy wrote the foreword. The book sells
for $60.
Bryan Construction Lands $200M MATOC
Contract
Bryan Construction Inc. of Colorado Springs was recently
awarded several contracts, including a $200 million Multiple
Award Task Order Contract from the U.S. Corps of Engineers
for construction services throughout the southwestern United
States.
Additional contracts recently awarded include an $11 million
design-build, addition/alteration to the Mission Support Facility
at Peterson AFB. and the design-build construction of a $6
million, 70,000-sq-ft Aircraft Weather Shelter at Laughlin
AFB near Del Rio, Texas.
Mortenson Selected to Build Cornerstone
Arts Center at CC
M. A. Mortenson Co. has been chosen as the construction manager
and general contractor for the new $21 million Cornerstone
Arts Center at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. The architects
are Anderson Mason Dale and Antoine Predoc.
The 72,000-sq-ft facility will include two theaters, theater
support space, an art gallery and gallery support space, high-tech
classrooms, office space and numerous "discovered"
spaces.
Stormwater Risk Management Opens for
Business in Centennial
Longtime Saunders Construction staffer Bill Robinson has
founded Stormwater Risk Management Inc., a Centennial-based
company that offers risk management services related to storm
water regulatory compliance in the construction and property
development industries in Colorado.
His partners at SRM are Chris Dray and Adrian Romano.
