M-E Up for National Award/Pear Plans DCH Makeovers/Weitz Wins Two Key Projects

M-E Engineering will learn this month if its work on the CU Health Sciences Center's Research Complex 1 at Fitzsimons will win a national Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies.

M-E Engineering a Finalist for National ACEC Award

M-E Engineers Inc. of Wheat Ridge is a finalist in the American Council of Engineering Companies' 39th annual Engineering Excellence Awards competition for designing building systems for the University of Colorado's Health Sciences Center-Research Complex 1 at Fitzsimons.

The project is among 175 engineering projects from across the nation being recognized by ACEC as preeminent engineering achievements for 2005.

Winners of 24 specific engineering categories - including the "Grand Conceptor Award" for the best overall engineering achievement - will be announced at the Engineering Excellence Awards Gala, set for April 11 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Judging for the Engineering Excellence Awards - known throughout the industry as the "Academy Awards of Engineering" - was conducted by a team of engineers and architects, along with representatives from government, media and academia.

Criteria for awards include uniqueness and originality; technical, social and economic value; complexity; and success of the projects in meeting goals.


Denver Architectural Firm Changes Its Name

Arlo Braun & Associates, a Denver architectural and planning practice founded in 1989, has changed its name to Braun+Yoshida Architects.


DTJ Design Project Wins Best in American Living

DTJ Design won a silver honor at the Best in American Living Awards competition held earlier this year in Orlando. The Boulder-based design firm was recognized in the Best Smart Growth Community category for its work on the Mill Creek project in Lancaster, Pa.


Power Contractors Relocates to Wheat Ridge

Power Contractors Inc. has moved its offices to 12200 W. 52nd Ave., Suite 6, Wheat Ridge, 80033. All phone and fax numbers remain the same.


Adolfson & Peterson Lands School Projects

Adolfson & Peterson Construction was recently awarded the $29 million Brighton High School No. 2, which will accommodate approximately 1,500 students, and the $10 million Gypsum Recreation Center, a 57,000-sq-ft facility that will be located adjacent to the existing Gypsum Town Hall.


Pear Plans Classroom Makeovers at DCH

Starting this summer, Pear Commercial Interiors will revamp one classroom at Denver Children's Home with the intention of eventually doing all 11 classes. At approximately $5,000 per classroom, the total renovation could be $55,000.

The updated classrooms will get new contemporary furnishings, carpet and fresh paint. In order to make the project a success, Pear is asking members of the local A/E/C community for in-kind donations of product, money or time.

Service Design Wins Multi-State Projects

Service Design in Denver has been awarded nine new projects with the California State Automobile Association.

The work will be done for facilities in Utah and Nevada, with Service Design providing interior design, programming and space planning services. Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction will be the general contractor for the projects.


J.E. Dunn Construction Relocates Denver Office

J.E. Dunn Construction Rocky Mountain has signed a 10-year lease and moved into the 15,193-sq-ft top floor of Colorado Center Tower One at Colorado Boulevard and Interstate 25. The company's new address is 2000 S. Colorado Blvd., Suite 12000, Denver, 80222. Phone and fax numbers remain the same.


Weitz Wins Two Key Projects in Denver

The Weitz Co. has won two new high-profile projects - the Denver Tech Center's Plaza Residences and the National Jewish Medical and Research Center's Clinic and Research Building.

The Plaza Residences, designed by Humphries Poli Architects and located in Cherry Creek North, will help attract additional residents and businesses to the high-profile location.

The Davis Partnership-designed clinic and research building is intended to help National Jewish continue to draw top medical professionals from across the world and solidify its reputation as the leading respiratory hospital in America.

The new contracts mark the first 2005 projects with DTC and National Jewish although both organizations have worked previously with Weitz.


McGraw-Hill Construction Named Codie Finalist

The McGraw-Hill Construction Network has been named a finalist for the Software and Industry Information Association's 2005 Codie Awards in the category of "Best Online Business Information Service: Non-News."

Platts, another division of The McGraw-Hill Companies, is also up for the Corporate Achievement Award.

Winners of the 20th annual competition will be announced at the Codie Awards Gala, set for May 25 at Universal Studio's Globe Theater in Universal City, Calif.


Martin/Martin Inc. Redesigns Web Site

Martin/Martin Consulting Engineers launched its revamped Web site at www.martinmartin.com. earlier this year.

The new site identifies the firm's expanded structural, civil engineering and design services and lists branch office locations and contact information. It was also redesigned to allow visitors to scan for information without having to maneuver through numerous links.
