EEI Commissioning North Colorado Medical Center/M+O+A Designing Bear Creek K-8 Project/White Construction Opens Brighton Office

Engineering Economics Inc. will commission the expansion and partial renovation of North Colorado Medical Center's Second Century Project in Greeley, which includes a 285,000-sq-ft, full-service hospital wing expansion.

EEI to Commission North Colorado Medical Center

Engineering Economics Inc. has been selected to provide building commissioning services for the expansion and partial renovation of North Colorado Medical Center's Second Century Project in Greeley.

As the commissioning authority, EEI will review design documents and contractor equipment submittals and provide periodic onsite evaluation of construction progress. When construction is complete, the firm will follow up with functional testing of systems, trending of key system control points, seasonal testing of building systems and owner training on building systems and interactions.

The firm will also assist the construction management team with preparation and review of the jobsite turnover package for the owner's ongoing use.


ASCC Honors Hensel Phelps for Stellar Safety Record

Hensel Phelps Construction Co. in Greeley was one of three contractors recognized by the American Society of Concrete Contractors' 2004 Safety Awards program at its annual meeting at the World of Concrete in Las Vegas.

Hensel Phelps was given the Best Safety Achievement Award in the category of over 250,000 work hours.


Design Materials Opens Colorado Springs Showroom

Design Materials Inc. has opened a showroom and warehouse at 6265 Corporate Center Dr. - off the Woodmen Road exit of Interstate 25 - in Colorado Springs.

The new location will provide local area support services to tile contractors and dealers and enable architects and designers to visit the showroom. The Denver-based ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tile distributor also has a branch in Albuquerque, N.M.


M+O+A Wins JeffCo School District's Bear Creek K-8 Project

M+O+A Architectural Partnership has been awarded the new Bear Creek K-8 School for Jefferson County School District. Principal Kevin Sullivan, AIA, CEFPI, will serve as project manager while Jack Mousseau, AIA, CEFPI, will be the design principal.

The $15 million, two-story facility - programmed for 1,080 students in 120,000 sq ft - is designed with a central organizational spine oriented south to north with academic areas to the west, and activities, after school programs and public areas to the east. All classrooms will face north and south to maximize daylighting opportunities.

Outdoor amenities include a track and soccer facility, plus playgrounds and gathering areas. The building's exterior incorporates several variations of color to complement the geological surroundings of Bear Creek and the Hogback ridge of the foothills.


Arber Announces New Office Location for Firm Headquarters

Richard P. Arber Associates has moved its company headquarters to Lakewood. Its new address is 198 Union Blvd., Suite 200, Lakewood, 80228. The new office is four blocks south of Highway 6 on the southeast corner of 2nd and Union. Phone, fax, and all e-mail addresses remain the same.

The company also has an office in Sedona, Ariz.


Contract for California's SR 99 Awarded to FCI Constructors

The California Department of Transportation awarded FCI Constructors, a Flatiron Construction subsidiary, a $15.4 million contract to widen and rehabilitate a portion of State Route 99 in Fowler.

FCI Constructors' Northern Division, FCI North, will rehabilitate freeway pavement and widen Route 99 shoulders and bridges along a 6.1-mile portion of the highway.


Quality Electric Selected for New DPS Bus Terminal

Quality Electric Inc. has been selected to provide $1.2 million in electrical contracting services over the next six months for the new Denver Public Schools Northeast Bus Terminal.

The 250,000-sq-ft site will hold 275 school busses and requires more than 30 miles of electrical wire for lighting, security, lightning protection, emergency generators, phone and data cabling and fiber optics.

The new bus terminal, under design by OZ Architecture, will be built on a fast-track schedule by FCI Constructors Inc.


White Construction Group Opens New Office in Brighton

White Construction Group has opened an office in Brighton to serve the needs of its clients in northern Colorado. The office is located at 30 North 1st Ave., one block west of Main Street. Linda Garrett, an administrative assistant, will be based at the Brighton office and can be reached at 303-655-0648.

Lee Hardies of Humphries Poli Architects P.C. was involved in the interior remodel of the new office.


JVA Inc. Awarded New Engineering Contracts

JVA Inc. has announced several new projects for its Boulder office.

The firm's civil and structural engineering department are working with the Sky Ranch Metropolitan District No. 2 and Garney Construction for the design-build of a new regional wastewater treatment facility in Arapahoe County.

The plant will serve the existing Foxridge Farms-manufactured homes community and the proposed Sky Ranch subdivision.

JVA environmental engineers are also working on wastewater treatment plan evaluations for the town of Bennett and the Aspen Consolidated Sanitation District.

New educational facility projects include Jefferson County's Five Parks Elementary School in Arvada with SlaterPaull Architects, the Bear Creek K-8 school in Lakewood with M+O+A Architectural Partnership and the Adams 12 Five Star Schools' Elementary No. 31 in Thornton with Christiansen Reece & Partners.

JVA is also working with Larson Architects on high school renovation projects in Bennett and Brighton.


Husband and Wife Launch New Denver Architecture Firm

Paul and Kirstin Todd have opened Todd Architecture, a new Denver-based architecture firm that offers a full range of professional design services to residential, commercial and institutional clients.

Before establishing the firm, Paul Todd worked at Barber Architecture for 14 years. His partner and wife Kirstin Todd has been an architect for 11 years.

Arapahoe County Completes Facility Assessment Project

Arapahoe County's Department of Facilities and Fleet Management has completed an assessment of more than 1.25 million sq ft of space owned and leased by the county.

The team of Lantz-Boggio Architects, 3D International and fm Solutions was selected to perform the work, providing full-scale Level 2 assessments of both the buildings and the infrastructure and analyzing the county's operations and maintenance processes.
