Flatiron Secures $134 Million in New Transportation Contracts
Longmont-based Flatiron Construction Corp. has been awarded $134 million in transportation contracts for new highway and bridge construction.
Flatiron has secured its first contract for the Utah Department of Transportation, an $80-million, design-build project to widen State Route 92, approximately 45 minutes south of Salt Lake City in northern Utah County. Flatiron is managing the design-build joint venture and holds a 60% share of the contract.
Flatiron is also constructing a new segment of State Route 52 in Santee, Calif., approximately 20 miles northeast of San Diego. With a contract value of $28 million, the new six-lane highway is the final section needed to tie Route 52 into Route 125 in the west and Route 67 in the east.
Smaller projects include a $20-million contract to widen the Hazel Avenue Bridge in Sacramento, and a $1.4-million bridge replacement in Elk Grove, Calif.
Aardex Receives Double LEED Platinum from USGBC
Aardex LLC, a full-service design and construction services firm, recently received its second LEED-Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for commercial interiors at the Signature Centre at Golden’s Denver West.
Signature Centre also won the 2008 National NAIOP “Green Development of the Year” Award.
The building’s first certification is LEED-Platinum Core and Shell. The five-story, 185,000-sq-ft building features under-floor air throughout, with individual temperature and ventilation controls. Daylight harvesting via interior and exterior light shelving, abundant glass and individual lighting help to promote productivity and creativity. The building’s performance for 2008 showed energy usage at 35% less than a building of comparable size.
The second certification is LEED-Platinum Commercial Interiors. The space was recognized for its water savings, use of recycled materials, energy performance and indoor environmental quality. The space also utilizes demountable wall systems for flexibility and speed when reconfiguring space in an ever-changing business environment.
