Honnen Equipment Expands Into Utah, Idaho/CH2M Hill Projects Earn Global Awards/Iron Planet Contributes to CSU

Honnen Acquires John Deere Dealerships in Utah, Idaho

Honnen Equipment Co. has acquired the assets of four John Deere Construction & Forestry dealerships from Scott Machinery Co., which it will add to its six locations currently serving Colorado and Wyoming.

The acquisition includes dealerships in Salt Lake City, Ogden and St. George, Utah; and Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The purchase, which closed May 1, expands the sales and service network for John Deere Construction & Forestry products, Hitachi products and Wirtgen Group Products for Honnen Equipment Co.

CH2M Hill Projects Earn Global Water Awards

Denver-based CH2M Hill had several of its projects earn high marks at the Global Water Awards event hosted by the International Desalination Association and Global Water Intelligence. The annual awards recognize outstanding achievements within the international water industry.

PUB Singapore’s Deep Tunnel Sewerage System was named Water Project of the Year and the Western Corridor Recycled Water Project was named Water Reuse Project of the Year. The awards were presented in Zurich, Switzerland on April 27 by former Vice President Al Gore.

Also at the awards ceremony, the Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment plant in San Diego, Calif., designed, built and operated by CH2M Hill, earned a second place award for Water Project of the Year. The Clovis, Calif., Sewage Treatment and Water Reuse facility, also designed, built and operated by CH2M Hill, was recognized with a certificate in the Reuse Project of the Year category.

Davis Partnership Awarded Mesa State Solar Project

Mesa State College in Grand Junction has contracted with Denver’s Davis Partnership for the design and installation of approximately 100,000 gross sq ft of solar panel arrays on the roofs of no fewer than 12 campus buildings and, potentially, several parking lot canopy structures as well.

This $15-million Mesa State initiative is fully funded through the initial design phase and is well positioned to receive a portion of Colorado’s federal stimulus money, in addition to other funding required to complete the project.

The college set a goal to achieve 90% energy independence. Because of the great number of flat roof buildings on the Mesa State campus, the opportunity to achieve 1.2 MW of clean energy is both realistic and achievable, Erickson said. The design team includes Lakewood-based EMC Engineers and Boulder’s JVA Inc.

Iron Planet, a company specializing in online auctions of construction equipment, has agreed to support the Colorado State University Heavy Construction Management Endowed Chair through proceeds from auction sales of construction equipment.

Iron Planet representatives Jim Abbott and Matt Bousky have established a format where contractors selling equipment can donate proceeds to the CSU program to advance heavy construction education. In addition, Iron Planet will match contractor contributions to the program up to 1% of gross sale revenues.

Approximately $1.2 million has been raised over a five-year period toward a endowed chair funding level of $1.5 million. Connell Resources Inc. of Fort Collins has contributed $250,000 to the program.
